I have been off work for about 3months due to a medical condition. My Dr. wrote me a note to return to work, but all I have done is throw up and cry all morning. Since I have been off, my job has changed. I'm so worried that I won't be able to do this job and get fired. I have always been a hard worker and have never taken such a long time off of work. I've been taking anxiety medication but I can't take it before I drive or I might fall asleep. I need some advice...I don't want to lose my job but how can I keep working there if I suffer a panic attack before I have to go into work everyday?

IdiotWind you are self named I presume. If you didn't realize.....I IM a cook by trade...not all cooks work at McDonald's and flip burgers and make fries. Some of us have harder jogs and have to manage as well as cook. Thanks for being so heartless.

I don't think your job is related to your panic unless you seriously hated it prior to going off on sick leave. You need to address the cause of your panic and deal with it before it takes over your life. There are medications that can help, SSRIs work on anxiety as well as depression. Try to relax your mind. Your boss knows you have been off, and that things have changed. It is acceptable to be "lost" for the first week, especially if your not feeling 100%. Take lots of deep breaths, tell yourself you can only do the best that you can do, try hard, and if you get fired then oh friggen well, you tried. Maybe you weren't meant to be there. But if the panic is taking over, you need to deal with that PRONTO. Talk to your doctor, see a councellor, join a therapy group, see a hypnotist, meditate, do whatever you need to before it gets way out of hand. Panic builds up quickly, and can really devistate ones life if not put in its place. Maybe if you bite the bullet and go in, all your fears will be calmed and you will be just fine.

It would seem that this isnt the job for you. Why not find something different? It might be wise to identify exactly what's make you afraid of your job. What are you afraid of?
Would it be possible to go to your work mid-afternoon, talk to your boss for 30 minutes or so to get a feel for things and the job responsibilities, greet your co-workers, and then officially start work the next day?

If this job is affecting your health, then it's time to look for a new job.

what, you don't get to make the fries anymore? How about learning how to fill drinks? Or flip burgers, It's okay to learn new things...
