You'd only be walking/running for the distance. It doesn't matter where you end up.

I know exactly what you mean, I power walk most days for about 5 miles split into 2 sessions - to the market and back again (carrying bags) If I have to walk to nowhere in particular I get bored. If however this is the only option work out a circular route from and back to your starting point rather than walking a certain distance then walking back the same way. If you feel safe listen to music (not advisable in rural/quiet areas or at night), makes it less boring.

You don't run to get to a particular destination just as much as you don't sing just to get the end of the song!
Forget about the treadmill because if you're thinking running outdoors without a particular destination is pointless, then running on the spot is even more pointless.
I like running circular routes, like around a lake etc.
What's wrong with running to the middle of nowhere?
Running is enjoyable for the running, not necessarily where you do it, but if your attitude is "what's the point" then I doubt you'll understand.

I walk to nowhere all the time
no, you need a jump rope
that way you can get cardio that's even better than walking right in your home
all you need is some tennis and a rope that's like a dollar
those plastic beaded ropes work best
why am I telling you this
you didn't even ask about rope jumping
you asked about walking

That probably sounds the best place to do it ! in the middle of nowhere Take water with you something to eat , bit of extra clothing and a water proof, you cant beat it! and make use of technology and take a mobile with you in case of an emergency ,soon you might get someone to tag along with you and then you may be able to talk about how much you appreciate the (nowhere) your in !

They actually have DVD's for walking. One I know of is called "Walk Away The Pounds" it's just basic walking motion, but still does the job.

Welcome to the boredom and tedium exercise. It's all about the amount of time you spend in motion at your target heart rate. Get interested in that and keep moving for at least 30 minutes a day. It doesnt matter if you walk one way 15 mins, and back the same way 15 mins. Put your ipod on and make it fun.

Have you tried the Leslie Sansone walking videos/dvd's? I think they're pretty cool. Yeah, you have to virtually walk in place in front of your TV, but it's not too bad. Other than that, you might want to invest in a good treatmill. Sit it where you can watch TV or listen to music.

Find a place nearby that you like and walk to it or run to it then enjoy it and walk/run back.
