that is not destructive to the embryo, does anyone see any reason that research should not continue using these cells?

For those who haven't read the article, scientists have discovered a way to extract stem cells from the amniotic fluid in the womb, rather than from the embryo. This does not hurt the embryo in any way. Does anyone feel there is still a moral issue surrounding THIS particular form of stem cell research?

I think this research should definitely continue. It looks very promising.

The only thing I would note is that the article said it should not be considered a replacement for human embryonic stem cells. Of course, they were quoting a researcher who has been working on cloning human embryos for stell cell research.

To me there was no moral issue surrounding the original techniques. Abortions will occur; history has shown us that much. Even when it was illegal women with unwanted children often found ways to terminate their pregnancy. With that in mind is it not the same thing as organ donation which even most Christians will agree is a good thing.

The fact is though that most Christians are completely opposed to any form of biotechnology. Especially where it involves manipulating human cells on a genetic level. I think these new techniques will change nothing in the eyes of the Christian fanatics.

No reason whatsoever that stem cell research shouldn't be expanded and federally funded, since they have discovered a source of stem cells that does not require harming the fetus.

Then again, I wasn't against stem cell research before, so take that for what it's worth.

Yes, there is NO need to destroy human embryos, for the sake of furthering any medical cause. If anyone says so, they just want to kill unborn humans. I don't care HOW young they ARE human life. There are other more efficient means. Why bring judgement on yourselves. Human life is sacred, don't make it and take it. It isn't ours for doing so.
Whoa, you forgot to mention adult stem cell research, and that is what I was referring to. Why kill babies, when you can use adults that don't have to die, etc. Makes NO sense!

No - as long as the baby or the mother isn't harmed in any way - and that they baby was going to be created anyway. I see this as a good thing -- however, I also see it leading to genetically defined babies being created to get the "perfect" amniotic / embryonic fluid.

I have no problem with it, as I have no problem with stem cell research done from the cord blood or from adult stem cells.

No problem. There have been several other sources, but I only have a problem with the ones that require needlessly killing an unborn child. YBIC

Adult stems are good, they harm no one

How much do you want to bet that at least one fanatic will be against it? Ignorance and fear rule the religious!
