Your friend? What kinda friend would not be happy with any kind of gift from another friend ? If a so called friend expects a more expensive gift, I'm afraid I'd be finding a different friend . Always remember, and I'm sure you've heard this before , you cannot buy a true friend . You need to think this one through. It's the thought NOT the gift or the cost of the gift. It's nice that you even remembered the b-day. I'll be your friend and you don't even need to know my name .

I don't think there is anything to handle. After all you're not required to buy anyone a gift. A gift is just that, a gift and it is the thought that counts. Your friend should feel grateful for you remembering him on his B-day and be thankful for the thought. I would however think twice next year on his B-day.

Just give him the gift and a card and say something like "I saw this and thought of you" or "I know you're interested in stuff like this". That shows you put thought into the gift. If he's worried about cost, then he's a total dolt. It's the thought that counts.

A friend once gave me a pasta jar filled with dried pasta and 3 wooden spoons. I thought it was a great gift! And I still have and use them all!

Why? Did your friend buy an expensive gift and is wanting it in return too? A gift is a gift. If your friend is not your friend because you didn't buy an expensive gift, they are not much of a friend.

If you have bought him his gift then let that be his gift.If he is shallow and wants a more expensive gift---get a new friend. Why would you think he wants an more expensive gift?Sometimes when people act ungrateful for something that they recieve----they are UNGRATEFUL....

If he expects something more "expensive" he isn't a very good friend, 'cause money "ain't" everything, Just give him the one you have bought already, if he is a good friend, he will like it.....

Tell him I hope you liked your birthday gift. Sounds like a greedy friend.

What's to handle. He's free to like or dislike your gift. You can't control that.

Give him what you bought him. If he's a friend, he'll know that you care regardless of how much you spend on him. If his friendship is dependant on how much you spend, then he's not a real friend.
