Purchasing own alcohol for wedding?
How much do you think I should anticipate spending if my reception venue allows me to purchase my own alcohol for my reception. We are having 4.5 hour open bar for 125 people with beers (heineken & yuengling lager), wine (woodbridge), liquor (absolut, jack daniels, crown royal, johnny walker red, tangueray gin)?

Store cost of alcohol roughly $1.50 average for a single shot of hard, a 4 oz. glass of wine, a bottle of domestic beer.....i'd average about 4 servings each.....4x's $1.25=$5.00 x's 125 ppl=$625.00.........you know who you have invited better than me...use these costs and guesses as a guideline and make your needed adjustments

Depending on the make-up of the crowd (you should have an idea if they are drinkers or not), it should be around $800 to $1,000.
If you need to, you can control the cost somewhat by only have one specific thing available during part of that 4.5 hr. time period. For instance, you could just have only beer for the first couple hours -- or have wine on the tables and not have the bar open yet -- and then you could make an announcement at a certain point (usually after the meal is served and consumed) that the full bar is open. I have seen this done before.

I have bartended weddings for several years and I am telling you it's gonna cost. First thing when you say "open bar" even those people you thik don't drink are gonna drink. Why are you having a choice on your beers?? Pick the one you like and use it...if you can handle draft beer go with that that is even cheaper. I know you llove your family and friends but screw the absolute and name brand stuff your paying give them popov or some other brand. A wedding is expensive so try to go your cheapest route. If they don't like it they won't drink it and you will save even more...but believe me when you say FREE it is gonna move no matter what it is. Good Luck and Congratulations!!!!

I JUST GOT MARRIED AND WE HAD A OPEN BAR 4.5 HOURS FOR 129 PEOPLE AND IT COST US $6,200.00. THAT INCLUDED BEER, WINE, AND HARD LIQUOR. GOOD LUCK! P.S. HALF THE PEOPLE AT OUR WEDDING DIDN'T EVEN DRINK. I THINK WE HAD A FEW ALCOHOLICS!
