yes that's a good idea;fine them for that.i've even seen my 10 yr old neiphew spit and say some player does it.kids think it;s rite if they see a actor or a baseball player do it...now days with all the germs;no one should ever spit on a ground ;where people are present;it;s just gross....fine em and if they don;t comply ;don;t sign em.......

No absolutely not as long as it is done outdoors. Spitting indoors would, however, be a totally different situation and stringent measures may have to be taken. If for example, you are in a market and an athletic-looking individual wearing a basketball jersey is walking up and down the aisles spitting, be sure to inform the store manager. It's the indoor spitting that should concern you because it just doesn't look good especially in the presence of children who may learn bad habits from these role models.

Well they used to fine people all the time for spitting on the sidewalk, but that was because of one disease...Tuberculosis. This disease is very virulent and can infect many people just from a few respiratory droplets, but since it has all but vanished in the U.S., then the old law doesn't have much meaning any more...

No! why do pick on 'professional sportsmen'. How about everyone else that spits in public?

Not just sportsmen, everybody should be fined and thrown in jail for spitting on the sidewalk. They should execute them too.
