Shedding that much usually comes from poor diet. Animals do have to shed when the new coat comes in with seasons changing but excessive shedding can come from poor diet, stress, fleas, etc. Here's a good site for you to read over and pay close attention to the section which states the main things cats need and be sure the cat food you are feeding him is equal to it.

I had a roommate in collage that had a cat with this problem. She wouldn't do anything about it, so I did. Hate it or not, he needs brushed. If you make him live through it every night, he'll get used to it. Also, call the vet and ask what food it best. Allot of times, the food we feed our fluffy friends is only the minimum in nutrition. Also, feed him a raw egg once a week, it's supposed to help their coat. I hope this helps, I'm a dog person myself, but this sure helped my roommates cat, within a month he was a new cat. Would still shed, but at least it was livable!!

Even though he hates being brushed. That is the best thing you can do to control the hair loss.
Long haired cats or dogs with always shed no matter what.
I own a Sheltie and have clumps of hair in my house all the time.
BUT i brush him almost daily to control the amount of shedding.
Cats and dogs are going to shed.,,, us owners of them just have to deal with it.
If you try to brush him every day. He will eventually learn its not a bad or scary thing. Try to make is fun for him.
Good LUck

It's normal for long hair cats to shed. The more you brush him the better it will be. If he doesn't like it, talk to your vet about getting a sedative. You could also get a product called Calm Down. It relaxes the cat and will make the brushing less stressful on him.
Good luck!

You need to feed your cat a quality premium food from a pet store. Grocery store food is poor quality. Changing the diet will help with the fur loss and help keep kitty living healthy for a longer time. You will be feeding less of the food because it has more nutrients in it and less filler.
