Do you have to have any licenses or anything or can you just charge them for your assistance?

What state do you live in? Your state may require a license to be a consultant, but many do not. Even where one may be required to consult, if you were one of the people who helped set up the entity, you could be "reimbursed" for expenses, or paid a salary for temporary work with no problem. In the last case though, they would have to withhold taxes just like any other employee.

You could work as a consultant, but I'd imagine to advertise yourself as being able to help with these things, you would need a license of some type. If you just help them with some financial issues and they agree to pay you, that should be okay.
