Ok it is a lot like everything else. There is good and bad.
There are great memory makers:
football games, pep rallies, prom, and time with friends.

However there are bad things too:
bullies, drugs, gangs, pressure to be something you aren't,
large class sizes, no individual teaching help,
councellors, teachers, and administrators who are overworked and underpaid and know nothing about the kids that are in their school so they are ineffective at helping you be prepared for college, helping find scholarships, teaching to your ability, or sometimes just keeping you safe
kids who have no supervison most of the time and so they have raised themselves and choose what is right and moral by what they want and what their friends think.

When I went to school it was 11 years ago and there were no school shootings. But we were already seeing the gangs moving in, and we are in a nice area. There were so many social situations I was sure I was ready for and really wasn't. in high school you are naturally at the age where you think you know everything (when you are 25 if nothing major happens first you will look back and say What was I thinking?) you believe nothing bad can happen to you, only other people (what do you think they thought?) and yet you are faced with decisions that can very easily affect your whole life. Sex, pregnancy, drugs, drinking, driving, working hard for good grades so your grades and study habits are what they need to be for college, making quality friends, people who won't get you into trouble and won't make you doubt yourself to make themselves look good. You date which often takes you from the highest high to the lowest low in a week. All while going through major body and hormone changes.

High school really is the best and worst of times, and it depends on how you look, how you act, who your friends are, what sports you play, and what your school is like to determine if there is more best or more worst. For every cheerleader with the perfect life there are 2 drug addicts, 3 pregnant teenagers, a date rape victim, 3 kids flunking out with no life skills, and about 20 kids who are acting like everything is fine, but contemplating violence against others or suicide.

So saying all that it is up to you and your parents to know you and look into the school you would attend and decide. Good Luck

First off high school is different for everyone. I would have to venture to say that high school is good if you are with the "in" crowd, popular, ect. If you don't like most of the people there then I would say it might not be the best decision for you. What do you think? Do you feel some what left out because your buddies all go to public school? Or do you like being home schooled? These are questions my oldest daughter had to ask herself. She went to school for 4 weeks at the beginning of the year and then asked if I would take her out and home school her again. She liked the people but didn't like all the sitting and doing nothing all day. She said she spent more time sitting in the chair than anything else and wanted to keep her freedoms at home. What do your parents say? It wouldn't hurt to give it a shot, but I would make sure that the law in your state would allow for you to leave public school if you didn't like it. Good luck to you! listen don't listen to none of these people high school has drugs yea bullies no i don't believe in that none cant bully you if you mind your own business. None cant touch you if you don't let them just say screw off make them look dumb be smarter, and drugs well that's your choice none makes you do drugs. One more thing if you can and want to be dedicated a little bit more then other people finish high school in two years take night courses summer etc everything so you can finish faster because if you can go to college younger you will learn more and party more etc be more mature then everyone else to snoop down to their level because you don't need to you want to get out of high school not have fun you have fun when your in college or when you have a good job at the end trust me but along the way make some good friend and still have fun ..

High School is fun and I think your missing out if you don't go. Even if it's just for a year or so to see if you like it. I think if you don't go, you might always wonder what you might of missed.
There are bullies and teachers you won't like, but there are friends and memories to be made that sometimes last a lifetime. In school you learn things that can't be taught, like how to deal with people you don't get along with, different points of view and those things will help you when you get a job someday. I think homeschooling is good for some kids ( 6 of my nephew & neices are) but I also think you should be given the choice of what you want to do.
Hopefully you'll give it a try and find a good group to hang out with. If you hate it , you haven't lost anything and won't be left with the wonder of what public school could of been like.
If you could find a charter school (these are free and run a little differently) you might like that, since they tend to be more laid back and smaller in size. Bravo to your parents for having the time and patience in homeschooling you, that's not an easy task! Good Luck!

Home schooling can be a great option. The most common argument against homeschooling is the lack of social contact. It will take motivation from you and a lot of communication with your parents to make it work. Keeping in touch with friends and joining a club or volunteer group outside home has to be a priority. Colleges are normally accepting of homeschoolers, especially if they have a diploma from some correspondance school like another post suggested. What colleges will not like is someone who stayed at home and wasn't involved in anything. You'll have to build your resume just like every else, filling it out with work and leadership experience, clubs, volunteering, etc.

It's what you make it to be. The one I go to sucks like mad. But then again, I go to a crappy private school. I think public schools are better... it's hard, but that's how you grow up. You don't learn by protecting yourself. I was homeschooled for 8th grade too (my parents didn't like the idea of the whole middle school thing) but I learned a lot about myself and reality. Now I'm able to defend myself... well, that was when I was in public school. I thought it was awesome because I got to know my teachers (and they actually ARE humans--not just boring robots) and the whole experience prepared me for what I'm going through now... especially with a job!!

go! you'll make some of the best friends you will ever have in life.
bullies and drugs? you don't think there are HS kids on drugs?
let's not be naive
its like wearing shoes, everyone else is wearing shoes, you'll like it and then you won't even remember what it was like before
its better to find out who you are with a bunch of other people finding out who they are, then to wait until your older, you would be like that kook in the 40-year-old virgin
its all hype, bad news it what sells media. look at the way media bashes homes schooling. You know its not as bad as the media makes it out to be. The same goes for real school

By missing out on high school you are missing out on a lot of important aspects of growing up and learning life lessons and making friends. Public school can suck but in general it is better because you can become a more well-rounded person and have more life experiences.

It's probably going to depend a lot on the high school. If you're not super social and into the same kinds of things as everyone else, it can be kind of annoying. Most kids complain about going to school because of the academic aspect but would hate to miss school much because school, for them, is about friends and goofing around.

I honestly think that a Christian High School, Charter school,
or home schooling would be a lot better for you. However,
we have to pay our taxes for the public schools so the bullies,e tc.
can be in school so the kids and or parents do not go to jail for truancy.
