You might be better off just being in Thailand. At least there will be more people who speak English than if you are in Laos or Cambodia. You can try a step at a time. Visit Thailand first, get use to it and comfortable enough, hop over to Laos or Cambodia later.

You can check www.tourismthailand.org for sights in Thailand that interest you. Or if you like, you can email me at thaitourinfo@yahoo.com for additional pointers.

Not sure how much time you have. I would recommend 3 weeks for Thailand, 2 weeks for Cambodia and a week for Laos. These are the minimums to experience something of the countries. If you have less time perhaps you should try fewer countries.

The people involved in the tourist industry will speak English, most quite well. Others will require some pantomime, pointing and/or drawing pictures. Patience and a smile facilitate communications. Anger and yelling do not.

Have a map with the places you want to go marked for taxi drivers. You can often get detailed local maps on the internet or from your hotel. Also have small bills and coins as taxi drivers always seem to have no change (and expect you to overpay them in your frustration).

Get a hotel business card immediately upon check in. No matter how lost (or wasted) you get later, you can show it to a taxi driver and get home.

I love the sea and diving so my suggestions may be skewed a bit in that direction.

Thailand:
1. Bangkok, Khao San Road, Grand Palace, Ananda Throne Room, Chao Praya river tour, shopping? day sight seeing trips?
2. Phuket, beaches, diving, water sports, Fantasea
3. Koh Tao - diving
4. Koh Samui - beaches, tiger zoo
So many things to do. You'll have to check the internet and/or guide books to see what interests you the most.

Cambodia:
1. Siem Reap & Angkor Wat - 4 days - temples and ruins
2. Sihanoukville - 6 days - beach, diving, lobster for $1? yes, but small
3. Phnom Penh - 4 days - palace, silver pagoda, river area, markets, firing range
Cambodia is pretty easy. If you go to these 3 places you'll have covered all of the major tourist attractions.

Laos:
1. Vientiane - 3days
2. Luang Prabang - 3 days
These are the main tourist areas.

You can find english speaker in the big city and the touristic place. You don't have to worry about getting lost. You should buy a travel guide book and look for Touris information.

My reccomendation is to start your trip in Thailand, then find the package trip to Combodia and Laos. You may also meet tourist friends in Khaosan Road.
