we wouldn't induce a coma just for pain relief, but we would certainly give enough pain medications to make patients comfortable. the pain medicines can cause sedation in high enough doses, so the simple answer to your question is yes, we may end up giving so much pain medication that the patient may be asleep as a result.

No. But if the pain is that bad, usually the high dose of pain medication will knock the patient out for a little while. My father died of cancer. He was on high dose morphine and he slept a lot at the end. I don't think it was good sleep, he had disturbing dreams (side effect of the morphine) and just the cancer all through his body. It was horrible.

for a really bad cancer pain the only thing they can do is the morphine pump which will does it out to the patient and will not let them over dose and i am so sorry my husband has cancer and i know what you will be facing in the furture

Yes my wife died with Cancer and she had a pump near her bed that fed morphine to her to keep her under

They can, but that would be tantamount to killing them. Most doctors won't do it. There are however effective medications for treating the pain...if one doesn't work, others should be tried.
