A new puppy is not something you need right now!!! Trust me. I lost a dog to a hit and run like, 7 yrs ago, and I still miss him. But I've gotten over it. It's going to take some time, but jumping into another ownership isn't the answer. It'll jsut make things worse for you. Just do what you would if a person died. Bury him, have a little funeral for him, and mourn him. Ask some close friends or relatives to come over for the funeral, just for comfort. They don't have to cry or anything, just be there for moral support for you.

It's going to kill you for a while, but I promise, you WILL get over it. I now own 1 dog, 2 cats and 3 parakeets. Everything will be fine, you just have to give it some time. Then, when YOU think it's time to get a new pet, try to adopt one, instead of getting it from a store or a breeder. Getting the same kind of dog might not be a good idea, unless the dog is a mutt. You don't want to replace the PET, you want to replace the love you had for A pet.

I have heard it said and I experienced it my self, that loosing a pet can be harder than loosing a family member. The bond between you and your dog is a very special bond and there is nothing like it.

He has been there for you regardless of what is happening. He helps you enjoy life, he gives you love like no one else can, He is your best friend and more loyal than than any other friend. He keeps you company when no one else is around. He is there when you are sad and helps you enjoy the world around you. He is so special that both of you are blinded by the others love.

I wouldn't get a new puppy right away, you need your time to grieve. You could, however, just go looking at what is available in the pound, shelters, rescue missions, humane society and of course watch the newspaper. Some of these dogs are only days away from death and you could give some lonesome dog, destined for destruction, a second chance for life.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have been there several times in my life and some dogs deaths are harder to accept than others.

I am so very sorry!

Heart to heart

Your English is great! I'm so very sorry about the loss of your best friend. I know exactly how you feel, and it's so hard to lose something that you love so much. Your heart is breaking. Getting another dog, is not a bad idea, and it will not replace the one that you lost, but getting a new puppy to love, that gives so much love back to you, may help to ease some of the pain you're in now.

Losing a dog is like losing a family member. I'm glad you're reaching out. It's a rough thing to go through. Our first dog passed away 3 years ago. I never was angry about it. I never wished for one more day with him. I was just thankful that I was blessed to have him in my life. He was a 90 lb Pitbull and changed a lot of people's minds about what a Pitbull really is. I still hurt - cause I still miss him. I totally believe that I'll see him again - and I take comfort in that.

Here's some very good advice about getting another dog. There are dogs all over this country that are sitting in shelters and are in a similar position to the one you're in. They've lost everything they ever knew and loved in life. Due to divorce, relocation or just people not being as commited as they should. These dogs are lonely and afraid and really need someone to care for them. You obviously have an opportunity to save a life here.

Do it in honor of your dog.

When my dog died, I promised I would continue to pay forward into the world what I'd been given by him (the knowledge of what unconditional love really is.) Now I volunteer at an urban shelter and work with dogs that have behavior and training issues. It's totally rewarding to watch them go home with great people like you, and to know I've kept my promise.

Hang in. It won't always hurt this much.

"We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made. "

Sorry to hear about your dog. I have been there. It's hard to let go of something that was so close to you. So don't. Remember the great times, and the not so great times. Don't mourn their death, celebrate their life. I'd wait a few months before jumping into another relationship. Take your time...whats the hurry. You can't replace your dog. But in time, you can make a new friend.

I am so sorry about your dog, it's a terrible thing to lose a pet. In time u will feel better. Take a little time and then go get another pup to love, there are plenty of dogs out there that need a loving home and will become yor new best friend.

This is grief my friend. These little angels come into our lives, get us thru some hard times, teach us life lessons, and then they are gone. Each of them special in the their own way. In time, you may want another dog but none will replace the one you lost. I am sorry for you loss. Good luck. I hope this will help.

I completely understand how you feel - losing a dog can be as traumatic as losing a best friend or family member. If my dog died, i don't know what i would do with myself! Give yourself some time to grieve - but know that you will get over it! You will feel better. And i really think that the best way to get over something like this is to get another dog. Don't feel guilty because you would not be replacing your best friend, you'll just be getting a new friend to give your love to. Just do it when you feel ready.

I lost my buddy 4 years ago.--very unexpected and very sudden. It still hurts-alot, but I can think/talk about him, see a pic, and smile.
Take some time off. Hunker down and keep living.
A new puppy is a great idea, but give yourself a little time to grieve and heal.( no, not heel!) (SMILE)
Put a pic of him where you can see it, smile and cherish the memories.
It sucks. But hang in there. You'll make it.

My heart goes out to you. After my best friend got shot, (hunter) I just knew there would never be a day I did not wish he was here to look at me, lay his head in my lap (all that would fit) try to push me off the bed, knock me around while we played, and yes to love me as no one ever will. And I was right, I miss him everyday, (5 years gone). I just got another dog, (rescue) about 6months ago, at first I resented him(sorry to say) My heart just wasn't ready yet. Then one day while I was ignoring him, :( .....he just laid at my feet and looked terribly sad. My heart broke and his love filtered in where I was sure there was only emptiness. He has turned out to be a God send. First allow yourself time (and you'll know how much you need), to mourn his loss, then allow yourself to love again. It's worth it. God Bless and cry it does help, I cried a river and still do from time to time. Like now
