First you have to know what is causing your back aches.
Are they muscular, then exercise can help. You back is only as strong as you stomach muscles are. The stomach muscles help keep your back straight. So if you stomach muscles are weak then you back will be also.
If you back aches are located in the waist area on the right side, then it could be more serious and you should see a doctor. I had such back aches once that taking medication and cortisone wasn't helping and I would have gone to a witch doctor I was so desperate and I had to teach an exercise class in a few weeks. I went to a chiropractor and he had me up and working in a couple visits. But if he can't help you in say three or four visits then then you need to see a regular doctor. An acupuncturist can stop the pain but not the cause.
So it would be advisable to first see a doctor to determine what is causing your pain.

You say you went to the family Doctor.. Have you tried alternative medicines? Like a chiropractor?. Maybe a reiki therapy or stone therapy.

My chiropractor did more of an exam on me then my regular family doctor. He found out I have nerve damage, two forms of cts, and chronic back pain that I inherited from my fathers side of the family.

Believe me, I know what your going through. In the 80's, I was hit head on by a car going 45 mph. Now I'm surfing with the same issues you are.

The therapies listed above do offer relief, so check into them.

Been working out? Lifting heavy loads and the like within the past 2 days? Stop doing that!. Also don't sleep on a cold surface. And not on an extremely soft surface.
Could be you are just on your computer too much in a hunched over position.
Remember those hard stools in school. Ever get a sore back there? No cause they "made you sit up straight" Do it again. Sit up and take notice.

I reccomend seeing a hypnotist. I heard that they can cure pain and stuff. BUT, thats just what i heard. The only way to find out for sure is to see one. Also, if the hypnotist isnt your style. Ask your doc about less drowsy medications. Such as a timed release pill called methadone. Its great because it doesnt hit you all at once like other meds such as Oxycontin & Percocet. Try to see if there is a pain management clinic in your area. They will help with the best options for you.
