I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know why nobody told you
how to unfold your love
I don't know how someone controlled you
they bought and sold you

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps

I don't know how you were diverted
you were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
no one alerted you

I look from the wings at tle play you are staging
While my guitar gently weeps
As I'm sitting here doing nothing but aging
Still my guitar gently weeps...

According to Harrison, inspiration for the song arrived from reading the I Ching, which, as he put it, "seemed to me to be based on the Eastern concept that everything is relative to everything else, as opposed to the Western view that things are merely coincidental."

Based on this idea of relativitism he committed to write a song using the first words he saw upon opening a random book. Those first words were "gently weeps", and he immediately began the song.

I believe the song is spiritual, but everyone has a different interpretation.

A song's spirituality is based not on the intent of the author, nor on the words that are used. Its spirituality is based upon the individual listeners. If this song helps someone to develop their spirituality (regardless of religion) then it is a spiritual song. Likewise, for a person who believes there is no such thing as our spirit...a spiritual word...etc., it will never be a spiritual song. To me, it is spiritual. A person is seeing the world go on around them, and that people just are not getting it. No one is there to do the things that need to be done for life and society to excel. It makes me feel like the speaker, and reminds me that things are just not right, and we need to work at making them right or better or...educated. Thanks for the song...I haven't heard it before, but I like the words.

I think I still know every word to every song on that album. But I'm old.

No, it is poetry, for sure, but is not spiritual, basically a love song

One of my favourite songs off one of my favourite albums.

I wouldn't personally call it spiritual. Great track though.

It's only spiritual if you're toked out while listening to it.
