My dog is only grouchy when he is sleeping. If he is sleeping on the couch and you accidentally touch him with your foot, he growls and gets off the couch. If he is sleeping on your pillow and you want him to move, he won't until you have to physically move him and even then he will growl and act like he is going to bite you, but hasn't yet. Any suggestions on what to do with him?? He is only two years old and i think as he gets older he will get even worse! He has been like this ever since he adopted him.

I have a 4 year old boxer that has similar behavior. I took her to the vet and it turns out she has pretty bad allergies. Whenever something would touch her skin, her allergies were so bad it would hurt and she would growl. I don't take that kind of crap from my dogs, so I knew there was something wrong with her when she growled. She is on skin supplements now and is feeling much better.

Talk to your vet and see if it's a health issue or a behavior issue. Make sure your dog knows that YOU are the dominant "dog" in the house, not him. Even if a dog is in pain, it should not be allowed to growl at it's owner over and over again. If your dog were in a pack of dogs, and he growled at the alpha dog, he would have been laid out.

If you don't want to go to a vet, talk to an animal behaviorist. You could probably get free advice by going to Petco or Petsmart and asking the dog trainer what they think.

Good luck!

Hush up Lance. Dogs do belong indoors. How long have you had him? Cranky animals are usually in some discomfort. Has he had a vet check? Maybe he is just a big ol' grouch. We have a dog that hogs the whole bed and when we move him, he acts insane - growling and play biting. It's just his way.

I recommend a vet visit (to rule out a medical issue) and the "Nothing In Life Is Free" method of teaching him you're in charge...humanely.

Build him a doghouse with a light bulb for heat and leave him outside. Dogs don't belong indoors anyway!

OK WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO IS SPEND MORE TIME WITH HIM SO HE CAN GET TO KNOW U BETTER AND THEN MAYBE HE WILL LEARN TO TRUST YOU MORE....THE PROBLEM IS THAT HE REALLY DOESN'T HAVE MUH TRUST FOR YOU....YOU HAVE TO SHOW HIM THAT HE CAN TRUST YOU...BE NICE TO HIM AND MAKE HIM FEEL WELCOME. THEN OVER TIME HE WILL BE ABLE TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE HIS OWNER AND HE CAN TRUST YOU....THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO!
