Is it possible, well I know it is, to give a dog too much Advantage? I recently gave our new puppy who I found a few fleas on her Advantage but because he is so hyper it was hard ministering it. I put some on the back of his neck and a few down the back of his back. But when I looked it looked like most got on his fur. So I gave him a whole nother vial on th back of his neck. I nested the bottle in between thefur and just squeezed. Nothing has happened to him but I just want to make sure the effectiveness is still there. We have a huge phobia about any kind of bugs, Hate them!!!!!

He still itches here and there doesn't seem to be a flea attack, I have combed him the best I can and don't see any or flea poop (lol)...not sure what the hitching can be from. He is a basset hound, maybe shedding? He itches and bites....

He is only itching once in a awhile which makes me think he doesn't still have them. Also, we have not seen any flea bites on us but can't say for certain they are not here. I know they can't survive on us and need animals so if they are here within due time they will all die, right? I just don't want to bomb or fog if I don't have to.

You probably did give too much and perhaps he has dry skin because of it, if he has not become noticeably sick. Even with applying flea & tick medication (yes it is medication and you should only give the percribed amount) your puppy is still going to have fleas and other bugs on him. Each time he heads outside they are waiting for him. The medication stops the little critters from creating their new home in your puppy, they are not able to nest or feed on him with treatment. Don't worry those little guys will not be able to live in your home if you dog is treated they have nothing to feed from. In the future, if you fear he did not get the treatment correctly, give him a bath to get it off before it absorbs into his skin then try again.

First, it is easier to treat fleas than to treat chemical poisoning, so next time, don't use the extra tube- you're asking for trouble by overdosing.

Second, Advantage lasts for 4 weeks, at the end of which, you will have to reapply the liquid. If it has been less than 4 weeks, your dog is still protected. If it has been longer, it's time to reapply.

Third, if he's still itching, it could be one of two things. First, the chemicals do cause some itching after they dry, and it can take two or three baths to get the residue off the dog's skin and stop the itching. Or, he could have naturally dry skin. It's very unlikely he has fleas at this point. Buy a natural oatmeal dog shampoo from any pet store, scrub your dog well, and rinse. Then, apply the shampoo again and let it soak into his skin for 10 minutes before rinsing. This will help remove the residue and calm the itchiness.

In the future, don't use 2 tubes at once! You're risking serious harm to your dog.

Advantage and other products like that are chemicals and when dosed on to our pets skin, is absorbed very quickly. I have two very large dogs and have given them half a dose of one pip each when needed and they are just fine with no infestations at all even when the neighbours dogs have a flea problem. I urge everyone to use the minimal amount needed and the only way to know what that is, is by trial and error. A good rub down with household vinegar works wonders too for the prevention of fleas. Fleas hate vinegar :)

It is the same with heartworm prevention medication. A once a year injection is an overload on your pets liver and kidneys. A monthly prevention is much better. If you are looking for a superior and well priced product, try this Australian brand at www.nuheart.com

He could have an allergic reaction to the Advantage and/or the fleas. Ask your vet for something to stop the itch. They have pills for it. The pills don't hurt the dogs just calm the itchy skin.

FYI - If your dog is biting the area around his tail, after awhile this could cause some SERIOUS back issues. My dog did this.

Also try spraying some "Bitter Apple" on his fur where he's chewing/biting. You can find it in the pet store. It's not expensive, it won't hurt the dog and might help him to stop biting.

Good luck!

Yes, you can. Yes, lucky no obvious reaction to overdose. Sorry you have a dog and a huge phobia to bugs! But please be more careful with Advantage.

The itching and biting could be a reaction to Advantage. Could be causing a "sensation" to his skin. Dogs do scratch themselves just like we people would. Men scratch certain areas a lot! LOL
Don't think that is a flea problem?!

But you can over bathe/medicate and cause dry skin or irritation that the dog is trying to deal with.

After treating my dogs with Advantage, one of them licked it off of the other and became violently ill. So much so that I had to rush him to the vet. It is not poisonous per se but it dig make him very sick for a few days. By all means, check with the vet about the dosage. Oh and you'll also have to de-bug the house. Fleas will live in carpets and rugs for as long as it takes to find a new food source. i.e. your dog, when the Advantage wears off.

Read the directions on the box or call your vet.. until a puppy is a certain age you should not administer it.. the vet can tell you if the puppy is of age.

Dogs are going to scratch fleas or not.

If Chelsea would not attack they're for sure going for the success of effects... the place they have of challenge because of the fact that Valdes is terrible recently. besides the undeniable fact that, in the event that they do attack i will see Barca defeating them. I actual think of Barca has the ease, they seem to be a sturdy away group.

YAH! Advantage dose is in accordance with the animal's weight. Please call your vet and if he suggests the dog needs to be seen, take it in.
