If (as you so often argue) a child *needs* a mother and a father, wouldn't it be even better for the child to have extra mothers and fathers. That way, if a parent dies, there are extra parents to step in and pick up the slack.

The Catholic Church teaches:

The marriage covenant, by which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love, has been founded and endowed with its own special laws by the Creator.

Polygamy is contrary to conjugal love which is undivided and exclusive.

With love in Christ.

I don't support polygamy because it is almost always a patriarchal, anti-woman lifestyle. It has nothing to to with Christianity or child rearing.

Of course, I also don't believe a child needs a mother and a father. If this were the case, it would be unjust for a parent of a young child to die.
