It's nice if you don't expect or want many of your family and friends around --then it's a nice little party. Unless you hope everyone will join the cruise with you, I can't imagine getting married without my loved ones sharing the day.

There is a fee for a marriage ceremony on a cruise ship. Not all ships have a wedding chapel. Contact the cruise line to find out which ships have this option and pricing.

Does "The Royal" refer to Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines? If so, it's not good, it will be tremendous!!! For such a memorable occasion, it will be an experience you may never again enjoy. I am assuming you would have no objections to being waited on hand & foot, excellent dining, romantic ports of call, various nightlife & extremely pleasant atmosphere because everyone is enjoying themselves. And if you just want to hide out in the honeymoon suite, they have superior room service 24 hours a day.

My fiance and are actually planning to get married on Royal Caribbean...either this New Years of spring of 2008. I've sailed with RC before and it was the most amazing time. When it comes to weddings they do all the work and cater to you. What could be better than have an lavish breakfast, going to the spa, and than having a small intimate wedding with your family.
We plan on having just our immediate families and their guests with us. I think it is a great way to have a joint family vacation! Both our families are into traveling and neither my fiance or I are really into the whole big wedding scene.
Oh, I'm so excited!
Go for it!!!

Well -- I'd rather get married in the port city and THEN get on the cruise ship. Otherwise you have your parents and your spouse's parents, and little brothers and sisters, etc., on your honeymoon.

Actually you can only get married when the ship is in port. It is not true that the ship's captain can marry you. They will set up a ceremony in port for you though.

I don't recommend it. cruise ships are fairly cheesy...and you will be in a rush the whole time while in port... I just think you should be very relaxed while getting married or on honeymoon. You can go to a nice location for less money....

It's whatever you want. Just realize that the Captain CANNOT LEGALLY marry you. You still need an officiant.
