My puppy is 8 weeks old and I have had him for 3 days. Since I have had him there has been minimal whining, and when he does whine he usually wants food or to play. I gave him both of those and he still is whining. I know he has teeth coming in, could this be the reason? When I play with him he whines and it started this morning since he woke me up. Whats going on?!?

He may still miss his mom and littermates. It could be the teeth or maybe he is learning that when he whines that you react to him by feeding or playing. You may be reinforcing his behavior.

You have to remember, that this puppy was taken away from it's mom and siblings, is in a new environment, and unfamilliar surroundings. He misses his mom and siblings, and is very confused. It's going to take time, for an 8 week old puppy to adjust. He doesn't want to be left alone. What would help is a soft, stuffed animal, that you can place in his sleeping area, get a clock that you can hear the ticking on, and place the clock in the area he sleeps in. The stuffed animal will remind him of his mother, and the clock will sound like the mothers heartbeat. They also sell stuffed animals, you can probably find in pet store, that also have the sound of a mothers heartbeat in them. Until he gets used to everything, you may want to place his sleeping area in your bedroom at night, so he see's he's not alone. Get him some chew toys for his teething, and new toys to play with. Give him alot of love and attention. I did all that with my puppies, and it really helped alot.

Do you think he's in pain? Some puppies are just whiners. When I first got my Newfoundland, he was such a big baby! He was afraid of our cats and whenever a cat would go near him he would run the other way yelping.

If you don't think he's in pain and you think he's just whining for attention, there's no need to be alarmed. However, if he yelps when you pick him up or play with him, you should call the vet to be safe.

Good luck!

First thought, he misses mom and his playmates. A heating pad, a clock that ticks, and some stuffed animals. In time, the puppy will get used to your routine.

Also, this depends on the breed dog. I have a jack russell, she is my consistent companion when I am home. She has learned to deal with being alone but JRT hate being alone. The laborado I have stays outside and defends my home and chickens (he chases them around alot too, he is still a big puppy). He prefers to be on his own when he is outside.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

Has he gone to the bathroom? Did you notice anything different in his stool or urine (including timing, duration, etc)? Has he eaten or had an option to get into anything he shouldn't have? Is he hurt or showing signs of discomfort in any way? Did he have shots recently? It certainly could be because he's teething. It could also be that he's just talking. But, it could be something else, too.

Keep a close eye on him. If it continues, call the vet and see if they have any ideas. They might be able to tell you depending on his size and weight if he could take aspirin or if he needs to be seen.

when i first got my weimaraner i went to petsmart and got a toy that was just about as big as her. i put it where she slept for that little bit of comfort so she would not be alone. i also made sure that she had plenty of things to chew on. He could be teething and i would get time something to chew on. My puppy loved pig ears but i made sure that i was there watching her when she chewed on them and i took them away when they were getting too small. i would let her chew on them for about 30 min to an hour (she would never get threw one pig ear in a day). She ended up loseing her to front teeth that the same time LOL i took pictures it was the funniest thing. and the toy that i got her when she was a pup she still sleeps with it. (its a green frog that ribbits i got an extra one for when this one needs to be thrown away.) Good luck =)

You could call a vet.

If his teeth are coming in THAT'S why he's whining. Give him an ice cube to chew on. It won't hurt him or stain the carpet but it will help numb the teething pain.

Good luck! :)

You should lay down somewhere with him with a blanket and let him cuddle up to you. If he calms down and quits whining you'll know he is okay, he may just be a needy little thing.

If you think he's in pain you should have him looked at pretty soon.
