I did my first level and like you am not really into the spiritual side of it, i was (and still am) a bit sceptical but there is something in it. Everyone i have practised on have really got something out of it and i have 'cured' headaches and tummy upsets on myself. I still am a little shy about it but i suppose its quite scientific when you think its all to do with energy surrounding us etc. I will keep using in and see what happens but at the mo im not touchy feely spiritual about it!

I am a second degree practitioner. I believe that everything works it depends on how much you believe in it. The use if white light and energy goes back way before religion.
Yoga uses very similar principles in terms of opening and working with charkras.
I believe in it and I think for me the biggest proof was when myself and a friend of mine practiced it on a dog, normally energetic, it lay down and was very still and quiet, in a park full of other dogs. As soon as we were finished with the treatment it got up and carried on playing.
I have experienced powerful Reiki myself so I believe that it exists.
At the end of the day, energy exists so does love and if you use your energy with love then it may be possible to heal people.
There have been studies done on this and it works, however it is different for different people, they have to choose to accept the healing or there will not be any effect.

As a Seichim-Reiki level three master...I have lots to say about Reiki.....it works, for those who intend it to work. I have seen what most would call miracles, wrought by Reiki, so personally, I know it works. It is quite simply a matter of belief, if you believe that it will work for you, it does.

I used to collect a magazine called mind body spirit. it had some bits in there about reiki and other methods like it, so maybe if you search the web you might find their website and be able to order some stuff from them?

quite odd, but it does work.. different for different people, but still.. it's sure a lot a matter of belief, for yourself believing may strengthen or weeken its effects, but reiki still works on people who know nothing of it and have never heard the name reiki, as well as on those who claim it's all useless stuff..
i have several friends who are into it and i've watched stage by stage how they changed..it gives a lot of power..
it gave me a lot too..i have not gone that far as my friends and i do not practise much anymore - but i still feel the energy, sometimes when i'd hardly expect it, and it's nice to be aware of that..

i find that i can do healing without being tuned in. all i feel is heat from my right hand (bit odd that it's only my right hand i feel it in).
don't wory about the spritual awakening, it works for different people in different ways.
if it makes you feel good carry on with what you're doing because it's doing good.
there's definately something in it x
