Pomeranians, chihuahuas, pugs, they all have short noses and therefore it is harder for them to breathe when they get excited. She should be okay, but if she seems to be having problems getting air, take her to the vet and ask for a surgery, because they can cut a cleft in their nose or mouth that would make it easier for him breathe

It could be a reverse sneeze. It's an awful sound but in this particular example, there is nothing life-threatening to worry about.
The best thing to do would be to visit the vet with Fido. Hopefully, the excitement and anxiety from being at the vet's will illicit the behavior you want and the vet can let you know what's going on first hand. Don't just let it slide by though in case it is something that needs medical attention or medication!

I wouldn't say there's anything to worry about. This is rather common in excited dogs. It's true that dogs with short muzzles have breathing problems, and you'll very often hear snorting, wheezing, and snoring in dogs like pugs and bulldogs. But this doesn't really sound like the same scenario.
My dog has a long muzzle and no breathing problems. But when she gets excited, she'll pant and wiggle her whole body and make funny noises that almost sounds like wheezing, but is different. It's just her "excited" noise.
Your pomeranian could be doing it because of breathing difficulties, but if he's like my dog, it could just be the noise he makes when he gets excited. If you're concerned, take him to the vet to get him checked out.

Many small dogs have small tracheas and cough, wheeze and gag when they get excited. A harness rather than a collar can help some if this is the case. He may also have asthma or allergies. A vet is the best source for info on this problem. Good luck.

Pomeranians are know for asthma....allergies, hair balls, ect. I'd ask a vet. Could be something easy, could be worse. My mother has a Pomeranian, did the same thing. Sounds really nasty. But childrens allergy meds took care of it. Good luck!

My dog used to do it. You just have to calm them down and they will stop. Sometime it almost seemed like he would just do It for attention.
