The bartending schools in Chicago are affordable and easily accessed by public transportation. You cannot get practical experience from a website or book.

A bartender's licence is international. I'm Canadian and I've tended bar all over the place. Canada is a pretty dull place to bartend compared to some places across the pond but it's my home. I do strongly advise you to suck it up and go to a bartending school. Is four to five weeks really that long of a course? Anyone can read how to make a cocktail. It's the hands on that really matters.

The art of bartending is to be earned through working your way up. I been in the biz for many years, applications that come to me from any bartending school goes straight to the trash. There is alot more to bartending than pouring drinks. Good Luck! Maybe you are thinking of TIPS class?

EXPERIENCE is the best. I have worked 4 different clubs and have been at one for 14 YEARS! Still Rockin!! Hang out with a buddy that is a bartender and just keep your eyes and ears open. Then maybe on some slow nights talk to the owner/manager and see if you can just work for free for the experience till you pick up enough knowledge and experience! Good Luck Man!

I bartended for years and never went to school. No one even asked if I was certifed. see if you can get one of your freind's to train you and apply for jobs. People drink the same drinks in every state. Any special drinks the restaurant serves they will train you on them. Don't worry,it's easy
