Death is the greatest of mysteries. People don't know what will happen to them when they die. What is death? What happens to this conscious entity that I call "me"? You're right, of course, nobody on Yahoo answers is going to be able to tell them that they have been there and back to relate the experience. However, people are asking for advice from others that may have studied the issue or are privy to spiritual enlightenment on the subject. I can tell you and them what God's prophets have revealed about death and what happens to our spiritual selves upon separation of body and spirit. Will that satisfy the requestors needs? Maybe not. The only true way to comfort the yearning for knowledge about life and death is to have that revelation for yourself. It is possible for God to reveal to your spirit in a comforting way what will happen upon death. The scriptures tell us what will happen and we have to pray about it to feel the truthfulness of that message.
In essence, our spirits separate from our bodies and go a preliminary judgment before God. The good people go to a place called Paradise to rest and learn and prepare for the resurrection. The bad people go to a place called Prison where they are made aware of their mistakes and have a chance to begin the repentance process. Eventually, they also will be resurrected. At the resurrection, we go to a final judgment to receive the reward or punishment that we have earned or deserve. There are as many different degrees of reward as there are people to be rewarded. Since we are all different, God has judged each of us individually and rewards us accordingly. The three main categories are called Celestial, compared to the glory of the Sun; Terrestrial, compared to the glory of the moon; and Telestial, compared to the glory of the stars. As the moon is brighter in our sky than the stars, so the glory of the Terestrial is greater than the Telestial. Likewise, the glory of the Celestial is greater than the Terestrial as the brightness of the sun is greater than the moon.
This information can be comforting to know that there is something beyond mortality for us to achieve. We can move forward without the uncertainty and hesitancy that the great mystery of death holds for so many.
Best wishes.

i died in a car accident 5 years ago. It was like a sharp pain for a few seconds then nothing. Unfortunately i shat myself and bled all over my nice new leather interior. I have since spent the time working in a call centre, trying to get back into the community. My body has since rotted into worm food, bar my skeleton and fillings, which i plan to sell to a museum in 100 years time

It could be that they have never read the Bible and are asking others that have what it has to say about death.
The Right to Enter Paradise
Death is inevitable. The thief on the cross knew when his would occur, but we can not predict our own. After his death, the crucified criminal went to live in paradise with Jesus. Some of us will also live eternally in God's presence. But others will experience everlasting torment, forever separated from Him.
If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)
Become part of God's family today. Acknowledge your sinfulness, and express your faith in these words:
"God, I have sinned against You. (Romans 3:23) I've followed my own way and refused to give You the right to rule in my life. (Romans 3:10-12) I recognize I am separated from You and cannot rescue myself. I do believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son. I accept the truth of the Scriptures? that His death on the cross paid my sin-debt in full. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) And I ask You to forgive me of my sins. (1 John 1:9) By faith, I receive You, Lord Jesus, as my personal Savior from this moment on."
If you just spoke those words to God, then, like the thief on the cross, you have received salvation? a gift of God's grace. The heavenly Father welcomes every person who comes to Him through His Son, regardless of background, age, or current situation. Through Jesus, the right to enter paradise is yours!

Asking this kind of questions is a sign of intelligence. There are answers for these questions, it is just a matter of knowing where to search and certainly here is a good source. Animals aren't equipped with the intelligence to enquire about these elevated topics, they just eat, sleep, mate and defend. People who do not enquire are no better than animals.

People are looking for reassurance, they probably know in the back of their mind that they cannot find the true answer on here, but they will read what they want to hear.

Because being dead does NOT appear to be all that much fun. And since we are all inescapably headed toward death...inquiring minds want to know.

humans try to understand mystery. we have never been able to know what happens the other side of life so we try to look for reassurance and understanding by asking questions about what people think. It comes down to fear of the unknown.

First, because they want to know. Secondly it seems that they can't imagine being dead. But you might just as easily ask yourself, what was it like before I was conceived?
