If you can afford security system, it is probably worth it.
However, I prefer a big dog or two ... yes, it works. Even a little yappy dog is good to let you know w hen someone is around, but the big dogs are deterrent.

Lights on timers on variable schedule, radio or TV left on or on a timer. Clear brush from around windows, make sure you have good locks, and put a bar or other item in the rails of sliding doors and windows.

Have neighbors keep an eye out.

Dont let anyone but a very few trusted people know you are gone. Have a neighbor or friend pick up mail and newspapers and such, rather than having them held (that tells more people you are gone).

Alarm systems are expensive but worth it, I was almost broken into in December, I was asleep then at 2 Am the alarm went off. It wasn’t my dog but when the alarm went off the security company called me and then I found out my door was busted open and they ran from the alarm. It was Christmas time and my tree was in the window of the room broken into, my car was in another drive way as well and these things made my home a target along with the newspaper was in the driveway too.

120 a year for security cost less then the possible losses.

invaders do you mean fleas! lol just kidding i take it you mean burglers well ive found what works for me is buying a timer plug, plug it into a lamp and set the time to go off at the same time every night set it so its on for the same time you normally keep your lights on, that way people will think you r still there and that there is no change good luck

Ask your local constables - they'll tell you. In the meantime, lights on a timer, stop the mail and any other deliveries, and if you can get or use alternative transportation leave your car in the driveway. Also, don't tell a lot of people that you are leaving - only the people that you trust.

Alarm System. If you don't have one, definitely either stop your mail and paper or have someone pick it up for you. Light timers help too. Thieves tend to target homes where it looks like the people are out of town.

You can get timers pretty cheap. Put your lights and TV on timersa so they go on at night. Also, get a freind or neighbor to collect your mail. This way a thief won't notice an overstuffed mailbox and know you're away, also, this way someone's coming by once a day to check on your place.
