I am not a big TV watcher but my signal through a traditional TV aerial is poor. I don't want loads more channels particularly but does digitial TV mean that I can do away with my aerial? And how much does it cost and who do I call to convert? Sorry for being so behind-the-times...

you can get cheap freeview boxes from about £20. there is nothing more to pay. just connect to your existing tv with a scart + rf lead and away you go.if you do have picture problems you can go on the http://www.freeview.co.uk/home web site and find out the signal strength in your area. you could also try an indoor digital ariel which work well with freeview. Argos give a 16 day moneyback guarantee so if it didn't help you haven't lost anything.

You can either have digital TV through your existing aerial, through satellite, or through cable.

Using your existing aerial is the cheapest and easiest From around £25 you can get a "set top box" from any supermarket. Just plug it in, and you're digital. It's called freeview because it won't cost you any more (except a TV license). You still get channels 1 - 5 but you get more too.

Or you can use satellite or cable, through Sky, or NTL or something, but it involves subscription and more channels. from about £20 a month (I think).

Hope that helps.

I couldn't say how much it would cost to convert etc., but it is expensive in the USA
If you have basic cable in the UK, then that would be your solution. In different parts of the US the different cable companies offer Digital service, but not all digital offering are all that good and are a waste of money. Satellite companies are good, except they are affected by storms. Check you local telephone book for cable companies and go for basic offers, don't jump in deep water for digital. Companies often will give a special rate to new customers so check this out also. You could also check out cable companies on the Internet for you area and special Internet offers.
