As much as making special days even more special pleases a lot of people I personally think there is nothing better than making an ordinary day the most memorable day of a person's life. Plus, if she's a hard girl to surprise I would definitely recommend not picking a birthday or valentines day to pop the question. What really matters is how you do it, not when.

Have you actually discussed marriage? If not, then before you decide on a date to propose, you need to sit down and discuss what she thinks about you and the possibility of marriage. It may be that she loves you but doesn't want to get married, or she may want to get married but isn't sure that you are ready.
Nothing is worse than getting psyched to propose and then have a bad reaction from the fiancee-to-be. Just because you may have discussed marriage in general, before spending money on a ring and proposing, you need to be specific about you and her getting married.
If everything seems okay with her then, sure, a birthday proposal would be great!
Good Luck!!! And Congratulations on finding a wonderful lady!!!

Well, keep in mind when you want to have the wedding. Most girls want at least 5 months to prepare. (I don't know if this applies to her or not, but still.....) So, if you ask in June, then keep in mind the wedding will probably be in the winter (not exactly the greatest weather for a wedding). But if you ask within the next couple of months, then you could have a late summer or fall wedding. (perfect for outdoors). But, you do it whenever you're ready! What about Valentine's Day? :D The best to both of you!

Five months is a short time, so I would have a long engagement.
Her b-day sounds like a good idea! Valentine's Day is too cliche' and is for people under 21. I know very few adults who get into V-Day.

Do not ask her on her birthday!!!! Summer is a great time, try taking her on a picnic at sunset in a park. Have some of her favorite foods and right before desert ask her to marry you.
Good Luck!!

Or valentines day... I do recommend that you two wait a while to get married. Only knowing eachother for 5 months is NOT a very long time. It takes a while to really get to know someone, and often rushing a relationship to the alter is exactly what causes the relationship to end abruptly accounting for many many MANY divorces.

That would be very sweet. Or. . .if you have been dating for five months already, wait until your anniversary which I'm assuming is in July. Congrats!
