So there's this chruch I have been visting to. I am thinking of becoming a member but it's a mormon chruch. I have no problem with that at all only the four rules that are bugging me. 1. Can't date until your sixteen. 2. Can't go to dances unless fourteen. 3. Can't drink coffee. 4. No Swearing. Number three is easy to stop but I really LOVE starbucks. Number one and two I have always been aloud to do there wasn't a rule of the age I needed to be. Number four would be hard to quit but I could try. No one's perfect right?? But my question is do you think I should join or not??

Personally, I don't think you should join anything that has "rules" you have to follow. You're a free person and a free spirit. You should do what seems best for you and not worry about rules. However, it's your call - do what will make you the happiest. I just know that I, personally, do not like rules at all. Brightest blessings.

My mother-in-law to this day wished that she could drink coffee. but she wouldn't trade it for the world. as for your other "rules" that are bugging you. Your first and second rules you stated are not doctrine. The church does suggest the these are good ages because any earlier could cause problems (High School is bad enough as it is). These rules are household rules. in other words it's up to each family to decide whether or not to establish this rules. Other then that, you won't get get in trouble or excommunicated just because you date before 16.

As for number for. Not only is not swearing professional, but considerate and just nice. Once again though, you wouldn't be excommunicated if you swear. My parents swear all the time and are still members (granted they don't swear badly). so if you do slip; don't worry, your OK.

Personally I don't swear only because I just don't see the point to do it. Other then that, I understand that other people do just because that's the way they naturally talk. If any member gets offended, that's there problem.

It sounds as if you already have done research on the church and believe in it. you just have a couple of concerns; which is understandable. If you want to be baptized you will get an interview and will be asked what you think and believe. You will not be asked about the rules 1, 2, and 4 that you stated. Those rules arepersonal choices. Your rule #3 is important though and you will be asked if "you keep the Word of Wisdom". In the end do what you think is right for you, and you won't be wrong. good luck.

I don't know how old you are, but I can only guess from your question that you're less than 16 years of age, or you're older and have a child that is under 16.

Your first consideration here should be faith. This isn't like looking for a job or an apartment. This is a significant part of your values system, and what you choose to believe or not believe. The "rules" of faith are not supposed to be the deciding factor of religion; what you believe in your heart to be true and right is.

Mormon faith is vastly different from most other Christian denominations in their beliefs, and that is more of what you should be focusing upon. Do you believe in the second coming of Christ? Latter-Day Saints?

How old you have to be to go to dances, go out on dates, drinking coffee, and use of foul language should all be negligible afterthoughts to whether or not you truly believe in the Mormon faith. If you do, then those "four objectionable rules" shouldn't matter.

My advice would be to take a much deeper look into the faith, and then a very long and honest look inside yourself before you decide. If you're worried about those four rules as being a reason why or why not to join a church, then you clearly are not looking at the church in the right perspective.

If you truly believe in the tenents of the Mormon faith and really desire to follow it, then that should be enough to keep you on track with the "rules." I know Mormons who swear on occasion...it happens, just try not to do it. As for the coffee and the dating/dancing...again, it's just something you would get used to.

But if you're not yet fourteen, you probably still have a whole lot of thinking to do before changing your religion...joining the Mormon church is a pretty big deal, as is joining any church, so you shouldn't do it lightly. Think about it and decide what is right for you before you jump into anything. Good luck with your decision, and God bless.

When deciding to join anything you should research it. Then see if you can live with it's rules or not. And you have a lot more work to do as Mormons have WAY more rules then the 4 you stated. You are to young to decide that if you are asking about it on here. What are you going to do calculate a percent then go with the highest? Wait until you are old enough to decide for yourself.

GO STARBUCKS!!!!!

First ask yourself this. Does the Bible say you cannot date until your 16? Does it say you cannot drink coffee? Does it say you cannot go to dances until 14? Anytime someone is not teaching the Bible and is implementing their own rules into the activities of spiritual believers than I would be vary wary about joing their group. Why? because what they are saying is not biblical. You are already on the right path for asking. God has made you aware that something just isn't right. Go with that. God sends people signs all the time of what they are asking He even puts certain people in our lives at times to get us on the right direction. Make sure you are looking at His signs carefully so that you don't miss what he is trying to tell you. And remember, If it's not Biblical than it's proably not the right church.

Let me ask you this question, do you know all of the spiritual goals of a mormon? Before deciding if you want to be a member, find out whay that a mormom male and a mormon female can get to heaven and what their goal in eternity is.

I went to a study on the mormon religion and quite frankly it scared me.

My main issue with the Mormon church is that its tenets include the rather unbiblical belief that God was once a man, and that males can eventually attain Godhood through faith. Since Christianity is at its core a monotheistic religion, I can't really make this mesh.

As for your choice, well, it's your choice. I have had lengthy discussions with Mormons, and have found that once they get outside their pre-written lectures, they actually are kept rather uninformed about their own religion. That is problematic for me, and certainly a reason not to be part of that church.

The Mormon Church is not a true Church. They have many false teachings.
Cult = Counterfeit Christianity
That is the best description I can give for a cult. Counterfeit Christianity is an imitation of real Christianity. Bible terms like "Jesus Christ, resurrection, salvation and atonement," are used by the Cult but entirely different meanings have been assigned to these terms by various cult groups.
Like counterfeit money which is sometimes difficult to detect, so it is difficult to detect counterfeit Christianity, since it looks like the real thing. Experts examining counterfeit money often hold it up to a strong light and look for identifying marks. Counterfeit Christianity also has identifying marks which can be seen when held up to an even stronger light, the light of God's word, the Bible.
We are repeatedly warned in Scripture to watch out for false prophets, false teachers, and false doctrine. To do this, we need to examine the prophecies, teachings, and doctrines of the various groups claiming to be Christian, and then we need to expose them.

I think it is really funny that you are questioning to join a religion or not, when there are things within that religion you do not believe in. You should believe in your religion 100% or not at all. A religious lifestyle is just that, a lifestyle, not a new thing to do during the week. So to see that you are questioning yourself I say no.
