Has anyone ever taken Celexa? I have taken it for a few weeks now & I am so TIRED. I just want to sleep forever. I have no desire to leave my bed ever. I heard that this is the gentler form of Lexapro, so has anyone on Lexapro had these symptoms? My doc won't change my meds either until I talk to a psychiatrist. Ugh.

No, Lexapro is basically Celexa that's been purified, and if your doctor knew what he was doing, he would have you on Lexapro instead of Celexa. Trials have shown Lexapro to be more effective than the old Celexa, and to have less side effects. And you can take it at half the dosage of the old Celexa.

Since they both contain the same active ingredient, you can immediately switch from celexa to lexapro.

If this drug is making you too tired, there are more activating anti-depressants, like Wellbutrin or the new anti-depressant Emsam. Prozac also tends to be more activating than Celexa/Lexapro, which is often slightly sedating.

Oversleeping is also a symptom of depression, too, you know. And a good trial for an anti-depressant is six weeks of use. It can take four to six weeks for an anti-depressant to start working, and switching to another anti-depressant before this time isn't a good idea for this reason unless the side effects are bad.

Seasonal affective disorder is also at a peak right now, and this makes people feel like staying in bed all day. This is treated with a special light box that you use in the morning.

Lexapro is the advanced version o f Celexa. It is a more obvious choice for a shrink or an internist to choose. I work in this field and it is common knowledge that Lexapro is a better drug than Celexa. However, if you have already been on Celexa in the past with good effect then it might be considered.

As everyone else has answered here, lexapro is a new generation of celexa with fewer side effects and it also treats generalized anxiety disorder. May not be a bad idea to see a psych doc, talk to them and let them know whats goin on. Good luck!

That's a side effect. Your drugs are creating a miserable (not resolving) chemical imbalance in your brain and it's hurting your body and mind.
