Depends on how much you are feeding her, vet's usually recommend feeding puppies 3x a day as they don't eat as much and need the nutrients to grow and be healthy. What I would recommend is to look at the recommended feeding on the food you are giving her and divide that by three, when she's a year old you can cut her down to 2 feedings a day or keep to one. Just remember if the bag says to feed 2 cups a day, then feed her 1 cup in the morning & 1 in the evening, not 2 at cups at both times.

You should feed them often, at least 3 or 4 times a day. You should also not take them away from their mother. This is an important socialization time for the puppies. You should give the mother a space where she can escape to, like a tall platform that the puppies can't reach. You should take them to the vet when they are about 8 weeks old; their mother's milk should provide all the resistance they need to disease. Though if they aren't feeding from their mother anymore, then you should call a vet's office and see if you can talk to a vet's assistant or a vet for their advice.

By the time our puppy was about 4 months, the vet said she was plenty old enuf to take her from 3 down to 2 times a day. You should be able to wean out that 3rd feeding any time now, just remember that your puppy still needs the same amount of food suggested on the bag (also verified by your vet). She can just eat more in her two feedings instead of breaking the overall portions into 3.

your comment: she is putting weight on too quick?
is she fat or growing? Is she getting treats/scraps you are unaware of? Are you feeding her enough at each meal? Puppies normally eat only what they need. It depends on their activity level throughout the day. It depends on your schedule also. They will taper down as they grow. The important thing is that their first year's diet includes quality puppy food. If you feel she is eating too much and she is getting fat, I suggest you ask your vet. Maybe there are some health problems that need to be addressed. But, if you feel she is just eating too much and is growing fast, I wouldn't be concerned. If she is really hungry for the 3rd feeding, I wouldn't cut it back to two without increasing the other two meals. She is still very young. Your vet is the best source to ask. Good Luck!

Hi,
Continue feeding 3 times a day until your puppy is 6 months old, then you can drop the lunchtime feed and feed in a morning and at tea time, remember to increase both feeds slightly though, you can then keep your puppy on 2 meals a day till 12 months old,and then cut down to one feed or if you prefer still feed twice daily.
Hope this helps.

Puppies need to be fed a nutritious puppy food, three times a day, until they are at least a year old, to get the nutrition that a growing puppy needs Once they turn a year old, then you can feed them twice a day.

i cut down from three meals a day to two meals a day when my dog was basically fully grown for that species, most people generally cut it down to 2 though when the puppies are about 6 months old, or if it's a girl just after they come into season.

Any time you're ready. Start by giving the morning feeding a little later, and the evening feeding a little earlier. A 'bedtime snack' is ok, just keep it small. Then spread the feedings back out, and eliminate the snack.
