Note, he said it was an "opiate for the masses". He was right. Observe the religious fanatic, who can quote you between 10-15 of their favorite verses and couldn't tell you a damn thing about anything else in their holy book.

Well, religion can definitely be seen as a delusion. It has been the cause of wars, discrimination, and much human suffering. There are those who claim that they know exactly what god wants everybody to know, and they are often not shy about pushing it in everybody's faces. However, to play devil's advocate, religion has possibly kept some from cacking others over the head and taking their booty or committing worse offenses when they would possibly not censor their actions but for the fact that god would think it's a bad thing. Also, societies that have been officially atheist have not managed to treat people any better that societies that have accepted religion(s) to a certain degree. So, the bottom line is, it is an unsettled (unsettlable, possibly even) question. As a closing note, one could even show (at the very least, as a parlor trick) that the existence of god cannot be denied. Either god is a deity that undeniably exists or a mass hallucination that is experienced by the majority of humankind that undeniably exists. Either way, god has a definite and proveable impact on human society, and the way humans impact themselves on other living beings and this planet.

Some of Marx's beliefs have been discarded by psychologists. I think Atheism can and has been far more deadly than any religion. Notice I am not saying this is true about all of them but in the short time China and the Soviet Union came to power they massacred 43 million people. 30 million in China and 13 million i the Soviet Union. So I don' see any superior morality emerging from this officially atheistic paradigm. It seems allot of atheists either choose to conveniently ignore this or are uncomfortable when it is mentioned. perhaps Marx was puffing on dooby when he said it.

because faith is a distraction from actual existence. faith supplies wish, even even as the challenge is determined. maximum of all, faith promisses that even if issues do not bypass nicely in this existence, you may wish to spend an eternity in heaven (it truly is in accordance to marx imaginary, a lifeless ringer for the global of opium journeys) once you're a strong regulation-abiding pawn that would not make a fuss. Esentially, faith numbs the plenty, keeps their thoughts faraway from rebel. So, the end results of religion is fairly resembling opium/heroine/drugs in most cases.

isn't Marx also the engineer for Communism? He said religion was the opiate, but forgetting human nature, how evil men would force millions of people to follow his own will to keep them locked in a society of fear. Yep, I can see how that is more attractive than Christianity where Jesus said He came that we would have life and have it more abundantly. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty, and Whom the Son hath set free, is free indeed. If this "drug" sets me free to live in peace and happiness, without fear and in loving fellowship with God, then let me have more.

You are correct.
The REAL opiate of the masses is Television. He just hadn't seen one. If he had, he'd have known that religion was going to take a backseat in the mind-numbing department.

depends on the religion. opium makes people peaceful and carefree. most religions (like christianity) dont do that, and christianity actually does the opposite for most people forcing them to live in fear of a vengeful god. id say its more like the LSD for people haha it makes them insane. if you are compareing religion to a drug, atleast pick one that makes you crazy

Marx was a parasite whose opinions caused unfathomable suffrage and continue to misguide mentally ill politicians.
