a person after my own heart
i feel very passionate about this also
but i am afraid that this may never happen
what you can do , and it is something i am planning to do
is bring harmony in your own area in some way
i wish to open a religious tollerance meeting hall
where each week someone from a different religion can tell of theirs and give some insightful teachings from their religion
so that everyone can learn from each other
because despite the differences in religion ... there are many aspects of each that bring peace and love

This is impossible.
You see there are millions upon millions of religions.
And many of them are violent. The mayority.
Some religious groups who hold one convertion:
Like in Christianity Catholics, Protestants, Reformed and Ortodox. Are fighting amongst one another. Less now than
before but during the Crusade the Crusaders did destroy
Bezyntain....an Ortodox Kingdom with fellow Christians
simply because they said
" We shall not bow to the pope of Rome, but only to God."
The muslims have the Shiits and the Sujits or something
like that. Who are both Muslims but daily kill one another
for some dispute about the Quaran's meaning.
But then we have the indian Multi God religion.
Whitch in some cases asks for human sacrifice and also
sometimes to kill disbelivers.

So even if there would be only one religion they would still fight
among one another.
This is not caused by internal differances but by
those who do not understand their own religion, are only half belivers or non belivers who lie or those trying to manipulate
religious people while in a high position of the religion.
Sects are well known for this type of manipulation.

If all people who say they are religious truely were religious and acted that way....there would be MUCH LESS fighting.

And this one person who posted here about Jesus changing this was wrong...know your religion:
The Antichrist will come and he shall rule the world and convert ALL people to peacefull "Christianity" .
But this will be false Christianity whitch will teach wrong teachings but as the master of lies that he is he shall convert masses upon masses. With miracle upon miracle he shall
convert even the worst of atheists.
That is how you stop religious fighting. ;)

Then some years afther Jesus will come.
And let's hope we shall be saved.

They say one person can make a difference, but to stop religious violence on a world wide basis is quite the task. Most religious leaders are too stubborn in their own beliefs to hear outsiders' input, so that immediately throws a blocker up in your way.

First and foremost, most atheists are atheists because there is no proof or solid evidence that your beliefs are true. That is why faith is a requirement (with evidence there is no need for faith). Second, history has proven that listing restrictions in a religion doesn't mean the restrictions won't be ignored. Religious conflicts often involve rape and murder of innocents (even in this current conflict in Iraq). I never said religion itself is evil but is a tool that is often manipulated and edited to one's specific tastes. I once believed as you did that religion is what kept me in check. The truth is that we can easily guage what is prudent and not by personal experiences and how we would feel if treated a certain way. Even wild animals have shown instances of kindness towards each other with no obvious intent of personal gain.

Conflict is part of human nature. Even if you were to vanquish religious violence, the violence would manifest itself over a different issue.

I don't mean to sound negative, and you have the right idea, but it won't happen in the current state of human evolution.

You can't. What you can do is to love as 1 Corintians says to and live a life worth imitating and if each person did this, the world would change for good.

Sadly, for some this will be taken as an insult to their religion... I don't think that this is likely to happen until there's some kind of massive religious crisis....

Religious violence is usually based on class issues, poverty, etc.

What you should be working for is eliminating class issues and equalise education and employment opportunities for all.
