Were you vulgar, "off-color"? If so this would be a matter of class vs. an Irish-Aussie thing. Men want their love interests to be somewhat lady-like. Why don't you tell us what you said?
I went on a 2 week bus trip full of Aussies and I was shocked what was "funny" to them. Example:
pulling down their pants and pressing their bare asses against the window for the car that followed! Drinking themselves into oblivion all night, being loud and roudy, etc. And I am no prude.

Irish have the best sense of humour. Given it's history Australia could be regarded as the biggest open prison in the world that's probably why the aussie got narked

Slagging is not the same as humour. Besides, while most people will laugh at a joke, not many will laugh when they are the subject of the joke. =P

if you said that australia is full of convicts they are VERY sensitive to this. I am Irish decent and understand irish humour but others might find it a bit forthright - we do use a lot of bad language that could be offensive.

We can never know with whom we are communicating on the internet anyway.
