I was going to jump at saying being in control of your life, because I'm opposed to the whole idea of God living my life for me. I do not consider us as pawns to be controlled by God as if life were some big chess game. But thinking about the question I am seeing it as "do you want to struggle to control your life or do you want to let things happen and just chill...take it easy?" Whether that is accredited to "letting go and letting God" (irritating phrase to me) or just living as a free spirit, I think that is probably the better option.

It would be better to let God control you. But there are hardly any on earth that do this. In order to let God control you you have to let all your posessions go, give yourself to mankind, not be selfish, and spread the Word of God to all. Its something I would love to do, but ive let society control my thoughts to where I need a nice house, a nice car, a wife, children, a computer, and other posessions. But I try to do whatever I can for God, but I am still in charge of my own life, unfortunetly.

It's funny to me that you ask this questions. "Let go and let God" is my pastor's new favorite phrase.
I think it is better to let go and let God be i n control. But it is something that is very hard for the average Christian to accomplish. We want to hold on to the things in our life because society seems to have taught us that submitting control over to a higher power is a sign of weakness.

both are true.
you must control your life.
and some things you must be content not to control.
you need to think deeper about what it means to hand control over to god. if you are driving a car, i would not recommend taking your hands off the steering wheel. god will probably not steer the car. if you are parachuting, i would recommend checking if your parachute is connected to you. God would not be where i would place that control.
on the other hand, after you do your best on the resume and interview, since you cannot control the outcome it's best to release control of that process. you can give that one to god.

God expects you to be in control of your own life. That is what that whole free will thing is for.
If you have no control over the situation, it is in the hands of whatever higher power you look to anyway, so there's no "letting go" involved.

Which god? Posideon? Shiva? Jehovah?
Better to be in control than to let whichever Sky Diety of the culture you're living in "control" things.

There is God's plan and then there is life.
God's plan is witnessing to a lost world.
Life is working to pay bills.
There are things that God wants you to do and it is best to let him take you on that journey.
Then there are things that have no eternal impact and it is up to you on what you want to do. You could pray for wisdom and he'll give it but it is up to you.
Letting go and letting God means to let go of what you think and defer to divine wisdom.
Sometimes, God simply says, whatever...

I would think that it would be necessary to demonstrate that said god exists before handing over control of one's life to it.

God will not control your life for you. But you can ask Him for directions.
