Modern day parents are too busy with their careers, jobs, love lives, divorces, new lovers and making new babies with new partners to be too doubtful or strict. They just allow public school teachers to diagnose their kids with serious brain disorders (ADD) and drug their kids, rather than actually parent them.

I would say not enough so with elementary aged and younger but sometimes too much so with older teens. Just as life changes as one grows, so too must parenting roles. The problem I see and guard against is that I think parents are very static. We may not change that much between age 30 & 50 but kids change much more from birth to 20 and we don't always adapt quick enough.
My 5 yr old said we are not too strict, she knows we set standards to keep her healthy and safe, but she said we are too doubtful after I explained the meaning of the word to her. Oh...I doubt that!

I think it's the opposite. Nowadays kids get away with too much. I mean I'm not exact that old(19) but I volunteer at an elementary school. I've seen kids actually cuss out teachers and I wonder if their parents would let them do that or not. I don't plan on letting my kids do that when I have them. I've seen some bad stuff from children in elementary schools and it really does make you wonder what's happened to today's parents.

More like wimpy, not strict enough and trying too hard to be a kids friend rather than their parents....thanks again for over sealeous laws...I got a beating once in a while (only when all else failed) and I turned out great.

Modern day parents? dont know exactly what that means but I feel many parents today do not set appropriate boundaries for their kids, nor do they parent them.. Seems like a lot of parents want to be their kids best friends. Kids need loving discipline/support etc.....

I think so. In the olden days, parents were more close to their children. In this world today, full of hustle and bustle, parents don't find much time to interact with their children.

I agree with Laura. I see some completely out of control children these days.... and parents who could care less.
