I think dreads are beautiful but they do hurt your hair a bit. I think that buying fake dreads and weaving them in is the best way. It's still not great for your hair but its better than actually dreading your hair.

I would check out Drop Dead Dreads...it's an amazing company that makes the dreads for you and they also give you a link to a website of how to put them in your hair.

If u r other than of African descent they look horribly nasty on folks who swear that they look good on them. Caring for dread locks is also a very time consuming thing. There r special oils used to maintain their cleanliness, lengths, and shapes. Consider it closely and better yet ask a West Indian friend who styles them.

All I know is that you tie it up, I think a hairdresser can do it. Then you leave it. You can wash it and condition it. That is all i know there was a magazine called black beauty that talked about it.

Why did someone rate my question bad. It's better then the other people saying, Oh don't do it. That wasn't the question asked.
If you think it will look good and is you then go for it. Don't let anyone put you off.

It takes a long time but head to the hairdressers for advice as you need to start twisitng you hair at a certain length and probably not washing it either.

Unless you are of a certain obvious Jamaican or African American descent, (or are any other ethnic descent but are in an obviously VERY alternative community), I would -strongly- advise against it. It would hurt your chances of getting (and keeping) a job. It is associated with drug use.
Think twice before doing things like tattoos, body altering, etc.

All I can say is stop washing and combing your hair, put some kind of waxy stuff in it and start matting it up in sections. Muha!
