I'm glad you are walking with Jesus.... (don't let go of Him) I'm sorry to hear that your a depressed person.... I know its easier said than done but try this....
stop looking at the negative things that happened in your life... ( you mention that you had a horrid childhood and abused drugs) if its still hard for you to let go of the negative things, try to talk to someone about it and clear it off your chest... once all that is cleared.... think positive....
God will help you if you just let Him.... Please don't lose faith....Focus on positive things.... look forward start fresh and enjoy life :)
God Bless you

ive been through the same, except the reborn again thing. I looked back at my life and figured there was always someone out there worse than me, so i shouldnt feel bad. I've found that figuring out why things where the way thet were and the reason behind people actions, made a huge difference on my perception and in turn on my happiness, which is why i decided to study psychology. Maybe you just need to find your purpose? Also a therapist once recommened taking fish oil pills and holy basil. Fish oil was used as an antidepressent long ago and has been shown to produce a reaction in the brain that is similar to antidepressents, without al the horrible side affects.

What do you mean your joy is not full? That is why you are depressed. Somtimes we are happy and sometimes we are not and that is okay. That is natural. The key is to learn to appreciate happiness when you have it and to embrace and give room for unhappiness when it comes. That is life. Life is a beautiful thing with all of its ups and downs. I had similar experiences as you in my life (except i never came to Jesus as you say I was raised morman and it made me even more unhappy). Life is a rollercoaster. Appreciate what you have. Also, St. Johns Wort is great also Evening Primrose Oil, Ginseng is nice, lots of bananas, excercise is fantastic for depression. It is okay to be depressed. It will pass. You had a hard childhood. somedays are going to suck. A mood enhancer is helpful. Best Wishes!

I think it's great that you go to church now, but God/Jesus is only fulfilling part of your life (the need to belong, to have faith), which is why you still feel depressed.
What you really need is an antidepressant. I'm not talking about St. John's Wart and don't even bother with that stuff because it's not that effective for severe depression and you have to take it so many times throughout the day, it's ridiculous.
Go to a doctor and get on a once-a-day pill.. heck, there are tons of antidepressants to choose from and your doctor can even give you one with little to no sexual side effects (if that's a concern). I know going to the doc can be expensive, but you'd just have to go one time, get the prescription, and then it's just a matter of renewals from there.

"I had a horrible childhood"
That's where the depression started, sounds like you were abused or neglected as a child, and then abusing drugs in your teens and twenties just exacerbated the effects of post traumatic stress disorder.
Jesus can't change the fact that you had a horrid childhood.

I would strongly recommend hypnotherapy. That will help you get to the root of what's causing the depression and help you deal with it. You can get this at your local complementary health centre. They will also be able to offer you advice on other therapies available there as well if you feel you need to try something other than hypnotherapy. To find your local complimentary health centre, you'll be able to find it in a local business directory or on google.

A pill, by itself, is not likely to do you much good. As you have said yourself, you have issues that are still with you. You need to get into some serious therapies and work those issues through so you can move on...until you do, you won't find the Joy that is hiding inside yourself.

Drugs taken in youth can alter brain chemistry permanently. You simply have to cope with each day as it comes.
Two years of Serzone leveled me out so life is not quite as painful any longer. Serzone is no longer available and I was likely just lucky.

Have you considered getting therapy to talk through your issues? You could have some repressed emotions that are holding you back, and a trained therapist can talk you through this.
