I mean i really want to know what people think. No one can even tell the difference between a pit and like 20 other breeds of dogs. I want to know how many people think that when they see a pit bull they will get attacked. And think that they should be banned and put to sleep as soon as they can be?
Well you should really rethink that if you feel that way. i have four pits, one staffie, and a mix (not sure what she is) and they are nothing but, 70lb. lap dogs. The biggest babies. My niece even rides on one of them. I work with people who have developmental disabilites and these dogs come to work with me. Their strangers to them but, they dont attack the love them they kiss kiss kiss them all the time. And the clients adore them.
I just dont understand how people do not want to even give these dogs a try. How people assume they are bad dogs when someone gets bit. Any dog can bite. How many people with punish the deed not the breed. Or do people truly think they should be ban

i did not ask anyone the put my dogs down!! They are very greatful how would you know? I have babies and nieces and nephews and the dogs play just like a lab would. Its in the training. Pits and staffie and bulldogs no one can tell them apart. and they also are less tempermented then a cocker spaniel. do your research before you sit there and put down my babies. they are sweet as pie and beautiful.

I don't think they are bad dogs. I think it's all in the way the owner traines them. I think pits can be good dogs.

I think that people are just afraid of pit bulls because of horror stories that they have heard about a few bad dogs here and there. Pit bulls do get a bad reputation because of how some people train them. I have owned pit bulls in the past and I have always thought that they are great dogs. It just goes to how they are trained. People also need to realize that there are other dogs that are just as "iffy" with small children and visitors. Chows are known to be horrible with children and also Dalmatians. Yet people aren't afraid of them. Maybe because those two breeds are as "vicious" looking as a pit bull. I know that pit bulls are illegal in the county in which i live, and really don't think that's right at all. My neighbors have a little jack Russell terrior, which most people would assume is just a harmless little lap dog, but that dog has bitten me, our mail carrier, and is always attacking my dogs. Now why isn't anyone outraged over that?? Is it because he's considered a "safe" breed? Nothing is ever done about that dog, but you know if it was a pit the city would have come and taken it already and put him down. Pits just get unfair treatment because people don't understand that you can't blame the dog, you need to blame the owners for the way the dog was trained.

The reason you don't "hear about" poodles mauling people is because they don't do the damage that a pit bull or a rottweiler can do. These dogs are very muscular and can cause a lot of damage if they attack. But that's the key, IF. Any dog can be mean and do some major damage. I don't think that pit bulls should be banned; I don't think that any animal should be banned. I think that bad pet owners should be banned from owning any dog. People make these dogs mean and aggressive. I adore pits and when I see one, my first thought is not that he is going to attack me unless he is acting in an aggressive manner. But ANY dog that acts in an aggressive manner, I won't approach. I don't care if it's a Chihuahua. And dogs being "put down" just because they are a particular breed is cruel. Breeders need to be more responsible and pet owners need to be more responsible. Every pit bull that I have been around has been a loving animal. They are powerful animals and people are acting out of fear.

a pit bull is no better or worse than any other dog. It is just that their strength makes them capable of doing more damage than most other dogs. If a toy poodle (which bites more humans a year than pit bulls do) bites someone it does not do much damage so it does not make the news. When a pit bull bites some one there is a greater chance of severe damage so it gets on the news. However no responsible dog owner would ever leave a dog and a small child together with out supervision.

any dog as the ability to be a mean dog if they are not care for by a loving owner. But you must understand that some dogs look scary which will make people fear them and some dogs may have a bad reputation because of their breed. people have to understand that it is not just the dogs but the people that owned them too. we are more likly to hear about the pit bull attack than a black lab attack because pitt bulls are fears labs are known for being a family dog. It is up to people like you who own pit bulls to try and change peoples minds which by the sound of it you are doing well. i myself do not think that i could own a pit bull because i am a little scared of their "Rep" and i dont think that i would make a good pit bull owner because of that fear in the back of my mind but i dont think that they or any other animal should be put down because of what it is.

Whether any dog is mean or aggressive depends on the way it was raised .If is was raised to attack, then that's what it will do. If it's raised in a gentle, loving , socialized, environment, then there shouldn't be a problem. I don't think dogs of any breed, except Dobermans {because they do turn on their owners sometimes}, is a threat unless the owner makes them one. Your dogs sound like real sweethearts. I think bad owners, that don't deserve to have an animal in the first place, are the ones who should be banned, not the dogs.

My uncle has pit bulls, and they recently tore the upper muscle out of his arm, but still keeps them. He can not get them shots or see a vet where he lives. He is stubborn and they have attacked him and he’s probably going to have more problems. Now you can go into the fact not all dogs are bad, true. It’s the owner, but when dogs are trained to attack and kill and have been known personally to hurt you or your family it’s time to let them go. If you can raise a dog to be sweet and not vicious then good, but some are trained to be cruel and attack even there own owners, I can’t tell you what to do but be careful. Once is sometimes too much.

I think for most people they just look at the numbers. You never hear of a little old lady on the news getting mauled by a Lab, or a Poodle. You hear about a little old lady getting mauled by a Pitt Bull. It seems every dog attack that makes the news are all Pits. I think that is why so many people think they are vicious. All the ever get is negative press.

Given the number of pit bulls that kill their owner kids,
I'm NOT worried about it attacking me, I'm not their kid !
I do feel sorrow for the innocent kids that die that gruesome death, but maybe it is mother nature's way of limiting the idiots on the planet.
Pit bulls could be viewed as reducing the breeding opportunities for morons.
We are NOT giving them a try because our brains work.
Next big question, Can people with broken brains be cured or will they keep getting dogs that have too high a possibility of killing kids ?
Why do broken brain people love their dog more than their kid, like the San Francisco lady whose pit mauled her 12 year old and she missed the dog more ?

Pit bulls are sweet dogs if not trained to be vicious. BUT, if they are in a situation where they are defending themselves or their family, they have that stronger than average jaw strength and will not let go until they decide to.
Children like dogs and may accidently back a dog in a corner trying to pet it or play with it. Even a teacup poodle will bite.
Just be very careful allowing your dog around your and other children.

I must agree with you on this one I to am a pit bull owner I love my baby so much. Don't get me wrong I was alittle afraid of the whole concept of it at first but I do believe they will become as the way you raise them just like kids. Pit Bulls are gorgeous strong dogs that are best known for locking there jaw to best grip something but because of that many use this for the wrong reasons. My baby listens and gives me love everyday when I get home. Fact of the matter feed them bathe them watch them play with them and give them a warm place to stay and they are your best friend!
Those that treat them wrong will get there's at the end.
