The mental state is called "dream on". Pursuant to the treaties of Velasco and Hildago in the mid 1800's Mexico sold this area to the United States in exchange for money. To assert that this is still Mexico would be similar to the Russians insisting that Alaska is still part of Russia.

I think many people fail to realize that North of Tijuana is some of the most valuable real estate in the US. While South of the same is an empty barren and undeveloped wasteland! 200 years ago they looked the same! The same can be said for the entire Southwest!
A big reason for this was the people who might actually have a legitimate gripe, the Apaches and Comanches who kept the short fat highland Indians of Mexico and the Spanish in Mexico!
The pioneers and Soldiers that dug water wells and set up law-abiding communities across a very hostile and barren land are the difference you see today!
Mexico is a huge collection of under-achievers and losers!

Remind them their Great Hero Santa Ana made the major deal and accepted the money from the sale many years ago after the US whipped Mexico. And the Gadsden purchase was made after Mexico complained to the US about renegade Indians from US were crossing the border and Mexico sold us that property in an attempt to have us be responsible for them, and to further trade by rail. The Spanish gave up on settling California by 1848, mostly returning to Mexico and Spain, taking most of their possessions and workers with them. Old Spanish land grants still on file show only a few still in the hands of original descendants, most others were sold to American settlers

I've written and taught American History for twenty-five years and it is common for countries (just like individuals) to ignore history when it suits their purposes. The Republic of Mexico LOST the southwest when Texas declared their independence in 1836. Later when America annexed Texas it led--in part--to the Mexican War. This war was extremely one-sided with the United States winning every single battle--EVERY ONE. Mexico LOST every battle they engaged in. Following the war, Mexico ceded a large tract of land to the victors (The United States.) We paid them $10 million for Texas and gained California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, part of Colorado, New Mexico, and a little bit of Wyoming. They lost land, we paid them money for it, they accepted the money. End of story.
To illustrate Mexico's claims of retention of the U.S. southwest here is an accurate analogy:
A poor family decides to sell their home since they are in desperate need of cash. A potential buyer offers a ridiculously low price but the family, strapped for cash, accepts the offer. They move out and the new family moves in. When the new family sees the state of the house and yard they are appalled. Nothing has been done to improve the yard, there is trash everywhere, the house is broken down and in disrepair. The new family works hard to repair the dying grass, they put in a pool, they landscape the yard beautifully, they build a redwood deck, they virtually rebuild the home, repairing all the damage done by the previous owners. Then, after the land is turned into a showcase example of landscaping, decorative lighting, state-of-the-art architecture and first-class room furnishings, all of a sudden, the previous owners return to see the beautiful land and decide it is still theirs. They sneak back through the fence and begin living in the new home. They eat the food, use the power, bathe in the tubs, float in the pool, and sleep in the beds, BUT they refuse to pay for any of the things they use. When asked just what in the hell they are doing in someone else's home they respond that it is still theirs. The price they sold it for was unfair, their current home is too dumpy, too trashy, and they don't have any of the accoutrements THIS home has and they want to live in this nicer home. In addition, they have children that are hungry and poorly clothed, or any of a hundred other excuses for their illegal trespassing. When the rightful owners demand they leave and vacate the premises, THEY are called racist, or bigoted, or anti-poor.
Get the picture?

They definitely are of questionable mental health if they think that the Southwest would be better off under Mexican rule. They´re just grasping at straws in a defenseless argument. That land was won in war and paid for fair and square.

As far as their mental state I believe they are very angry people.
It is unfortunate they don't seem to be open minded. They don't look at the things on each side.
It is ashamed that a country as populated as Mexico will not help their impoverished citizens. I believe that if they did they would stop coming into the the U.S. illegally.
I true belief is the whole jest of the problems.

all those mexicans who think the southwest belongs to mexico are a bunch of sore losers. first of all it originally was spanish property then the mexicans got some of it but we bought it fair and square and then they tried to take it back by force..ever heard of something called the alamo? well the mexicans slaughtered US citizens so we kicked the **** out of them and kept our territory so if the mexicans want it theyre gonna have to fight for it and they dont stand a chance in hell

Back in the day.A country got what they could take by force of arms.We got what we now have.Whenever Mexico decides they have the military force to retake the Southwest. Then they can have it.If all the illegals went back to Mexico and enlisted in their military they may have the man power, but we all know that ain't gonna happen.
