I was started thinking about Jesus as an infant by my parents. Dad was a conservative Christian preacher and mom was a homemaker. They started their family while in college in 1950 and I was their first born in late 51. I started sharing my understanding about Jesus by going door to door starting at the age of 4. I made a conscious informed choice at the age of 12 to accept Christ in my life and follow Him so was baptized then.
I can not imagine how difficult life must be for people who do not have the blessings of this knowledge that I have always known. Life must be very difficult to comprehend, for them.
My knowledge of the Bible is different on several major points than most conservative Christian beliefs today. For example, I know the Bible tells us that when you die you do not go anywhere, but rest in the grave until one of two resurrections at or after Jesus' second coming at the end of the world.
The Bible also clearly places hell fire on earth starting 1000 years after the second advent and that hell fire burns sinners up and then burns out, so God clearly does not torture people in a ongoing burning hell fire for eternity.
Also I think the most logical origin of all things is by creation by God and the weekly creation of life on this earth occurred just as Genesis chapter one indicates. The origin of life on earth was no accident and took only 6 days. All flora and fauna started in their mature forms and reproduced from that point on as they do today. All species were created and did not evolve from each other. Adaptation or micro evolution has always occurred according to creation's designs, but macro evolution ie from one species to the next, has never occurred and there is absolutely no evidence in science of such. True science and true logic perfectly explain and support true religion and true religion (Bible as the only source of truth) perfectly explains and supports true science. There is no contradictions between the two systems.
The problems in comparing or contrasting the two, exist because often false religion is compared to false science and these two belief systems are both incorrect and both distort reality.

I never really gave Jesus much thought until I was an adult married with children. I was a really nice guy and would think what kind of God would send to hell a really nice guy just because he isn't into the whole "God thing"...
I drank, smoked, had sex with as many different women as possible, cussed like a pirate, the whole bit... Wasn't much for lying and stealing and that kind of thing... Just a regular guy.
One day about 9 years ago my wife and I started investigating Jesus Christ, to know more about him. Now I have a personal relationship with him, and want to know everything there is to know about His life and how He wants me to live mine.
My life has changed greatly since I became a Christian... Make no mistake, I am in many ways still pretty messed up and and I am still challenged by some of the same old things. I still have a long way to go, but I now have a standard to follow, and I know that no matter how messed up I am; my God, Jesus Christ loves me and nothing I can do will ever change that.

I remember, living in Germany, praying before a picture of Jesus in a friend's house. It was my idea. I remember loving the picuters my Grandma had of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Blessed Heart of Mary. I remember sitting in church, keeping my eyes on the crusifix because I thought that he'd move when I wasn't looking.
I still love Jesus, I still pray, I have those picuters now in my house and I still watch the crusifix.

That he looked like a girl with a beard in those silly pictures of him.
I thought it might be a sin to think that.
No.
Yes.
My point is my view of Jesus was tainted by silly traditions that man made up. I eventually grew up and decided to through those images away. Now I'm working on really knowing him and putting a picture together that is really him.

My earliest reaction to my father teaching me about Jesus was that it is not possible for a person to die and come back.
I wondered why it was necessary for Christians to believe that -- wasn't it enough to follow his teachings?

I heard dear old Father Boas say the phrase: "the man upstairs" once - so I thought Jesus was the "man upstairs" at the church. I was afraid to go knock on His door, though.
