One of my good friends and I take a pole dancing class at our gym we are members of. You are right..it has become a fashionable form of exercise. I can tell you it is a kick butt workout too!! Our class lasts for 45 minutes and at the end of it, you can definitely leave knowing you did something good for your body!! There are some very strenous steps involved, but most important it is fun, and you are so busy concentrating on the steps and movements you forget you are exercising. Some of the women in our class do prefer to wear heels ( and you don't have to get stripper shoes! LOL ) and some of us wear regular workout tennis shoes. Our class does have poles installed, but we also work on basic dance steps on the floor. If you can find a place that offers this class, see if you can go in and try a few before you commit to taking them. I live in a huge city and the places that offer this are still far and few between...we actually had to talk to the manager of our gym to have them start offering this class...and since they did their membership has grown and they have even gone from starting out with one pole dance class to 4 now!!
Good luck! I say try it if you can find it....you will definitely get in shape!! Especially your legs

I think it would be! And personally I think its would be a fun way to do it too! Linsey Lohen actually does pole dancing for a workout. It is expensive figuring you have to buy a pole.. or you could use a pole in your basement but its fairly cheap to buy a video off ebay... I would think it would tone your arms better then your legs just because you are supporting most of your weight by your arms... Sounds fun though and it wouldn't hurt to try!! Goodluck ;)

yes it's good but costly.
A two hour lesson costs £15 a private one £30 and thats once a week! whereas your average gym member ship cost £30 a month.
It's good but how effective can one or two classes really be?

One of my very good friends teaches a pole class. It is a good work out and requires good upper arm strength. It aint easy but when I took her class - I had a really good time and believe me, you will sweat.

YES ANY DANCING IS GOOD EXERCISE,AND A LOT MORE ENJOYABLE. ANOTHER GOOD ONE IS BELLY DANCING.
