I would like to know some of your experiences with getting dentures. I am 31, having 20 extractions, getting full set on top and partial on bottom. I will be getting an immediate TEMP set of dentures/partial that same day. Everyone I have talked to says the pain level will be no more than a normal extraction but I beg to differ. Can you offer your experiences??

Oh and let me add that it is not because my teeth are bad....it has to be done for medical reasons due to an accident.

When I had my teeth extracted and dentures put in the biggest problem I found with them was that when I went to eat, my mouth felt so full with the tiniest morsel of food. But hey, it was good for the waist line for a while. :)

I didn't have a great deal of pain. There was some, but definately nothing major. I guess with everything it all depends on your pain threshold. If you have a high pain threshold you won't feel it too bad, but if it's low, then you'll feel like... like.... like you've just had all your teeth pulled.

I wish you all the best when you get it done. I'm sure though that you will find it a breeze.

I had to get mine done, also because of an accident. I was ssoooo scared...I honestly think it depends on your pain tolerance. I'll tell you my experience. I woke up that morning, and took a Valium my surgeon had given me, because I was extremely nervous, and I have an anxiety disorder. When we got there (my Mom took me) we sat in the waiting room for like 5 minutes, then I went on back. I layed down, and the nurses covered me with a blanket because I was cold and then they put that big poofy blood pressure checker thingy on my arm, and in the other arm, they put an IV. They placed something over my nose, and then the next thing I remember is waking up the next morning. I don't remember any of the surgery, the ride home, or being at home the rest of the day. A regular extraction doesn't hurt me, usually at all....just an uncomfortable pull, and the extraction of 12 of my teeth didn't hurt. I remember I cried the next morning, because I was hungry, and couldn't eat, because my mouth was so swollen. Everyone is different...I will just tell you to TRY to be as calm as you can. THey're professionals, they know what they're doing. You can ask them any questions about the process, but nobody is going to be able to tell you, without any contradictions what you are EXACTLY going to feel. Good Luck.

The pain level from my extractions were alright, I had no major pain than expected, didn't even have to use all my pain pills. BTW had 32 extractions done at once. The worst part of the who ordeal was the wait to have all the work done.

You're getting 20 teeth pulled in one day? You better have some vicoprofen on hand, cause I had only one pulled ten days ago, and the pain lasted for a week.

Yeah.. I really feel sorry for you and what you will be going threw.
My mother had gotten dentures both top and bottom... She said the pain level was close to childbirth.... that she couldn't eat for 4 days.. it upset her stomach so much. there is a lot of bleeding and it nauseated her stomach. All in all.. its one of them hellish experiences .

I know people who got immediates without any problem except for going for realigns. After a few months they had permanent made when the swelling had gone down and got a better fit that way.
