When was the Stock Acquired by you? If you are not able to obtain copies of the original Buy order, but do know when it was bought you could use an "Intelligent Estimate" by using the Market Opening for the date it was purchased. If you have only an approximate purchase date then use the lowest price for the stiock during the month purchased.

My goodness, SuzeY needs to take a chill pill :o). But, she is right about contacting where you bought it from and asking how much you had paid for it to begin with. Oftentimes you can find it out online if you were with an investment company that has an online service where you can log into your account. For example, I had some stock with Franklin Templeton, and I could log onto my account online and it showed everything I needed right there online....how much I paid for the stock, how much it had lost/gained, and how much I sold it for at the end. If it's not that easy for yours, then just give them a call, they should be able to look it up with your social security #.

Contact the broker you purchased it from and ask for a duplicate "buy" statement. If you purchased it directly from the stock holding company, contact their investor relations department and ask for a copy of the "buy" statement. Don't you have any of your original documentation? Let this be a lesson learned-keep all financial records in a safe place.

I purchased the EMC stock in the lat 90 s at $54 or $55 a share. I can not find any history online to give me an idea when I bought it. Don t say go back to the broker and ask, because the brokers sold out or merged at least 3 times since that. I tried that and they don t the the information. I just need to find old charts for the company which is no longer trading.
