The thing that prevents us from flying is the way we are. We are not birds of any sort. We have no wings, and even if we did, we would most likely be far to heavy to fly. There are other things as well, such as our digestive system, that are preventing us. But that is exactly why man created the airplane. To look into the face of "God" and laugh.

That travelling through time into the future is possible has long been an accepted fact: not only are we all en route into the future at any given moment, but Einstein's theory of special relativity proves that time goes slower if you are moving at very high speed. If you take a journey on fast space ship, then when you come back to earth, time there will have passed faster than it did for you, and you effectively jump into the future...And that is flying...

In some beliefs it is a state of mind that grounds us. (The Yogis are said to be able to hover when in deep meditation. Due to that meditation they have nothing from hovering. Like spiting on other peoples heads and so on)
What keeps us on the floor is each of the following reasons:
Too heavy! (good guess but in fact it is the gravity that does the trick. With less gravity but the same weight we could fly)
Too slow! (if you run with lets say about 700mph your thumb spread in the wrong angle would propell you into low and declining orbit. Ouch!)
If we could wiggle our arms like wings 134.965 times per second maybe we would be airborne as well.
Too sober! (keep it that way, dear! ;-)

In order to fly you have to have something to counteract the gravitational pull of the earth ....humans don't!
If we were about 75% lighter without any loss of muscle strength and we had wings we might be able to fly for short periods.

We do fly...it called airplanes. Do we physically fly with just our bodies? No because we don't have wings.

Speak for yourself. Maybe you're too heavy, but I'm just big boned. I fly all the time. They just ask me to buy an extra seat.

Birds have a much higher percentage of very strong muscle, and hollow bones. Human powered fight has taken place, in a plane called "the Gossamer Albatross," pedaled like a bicycle.

Weight can sometimes be a factor. Check with the airline you want to fly with. They will explain the problem to you.
