Labs are not usually considered good apartment dogs. They need room to run and play. You can keep him in an apartment though, if you are plannning on exercising him daily. There are other big breeds that do well in apartments, such as Great Danes (although it may seem crowded once you get the big guy in there). Some smaller breeds are good apartment dogs as well.

It depends on how dedicated you are to properly exercising your dog. I have a 70 lb Golden Retriever in an apartment and he does just fine. When he was younger, we went to the dog park for about an hour every single day, rain or shine. In the summer, we often spent as much as 2 hours a day at the park. On weekends, we went hiking or swimming or to the park again. Now that he's almost 3, he seems to do ok with 30-45 minutes a day of exercise, with special outings on weekends.

During the day, my dog sleeps. When I get home, he just wants to sit right next to me or follow me around, so a big house wouldn't really make a difference as he is "velcroed" to me anyway. He wouldn't be out in a yard without me, and dogs don't exercise themselves, so a yard really isn't necessary either. I just go to a dog park, since I have to be outside with him anyway.

Dogs are time-intensive, not space intensive. Given that you can provide your lab with the proper amount of exercise and mental stimulation so that he doesn't get bored, you should be fine. If you're really concerned, adopt an older lab - perhaps one that is 3 or 4. They are past the really high energy, puppy phase and should happily be a couch potato when you aren't home.

Sure as long as the apartment will ok the retriever. And the lab
goes a lot with you. Like if you have a truck and you are out on a job where the lab can get out and walk arould all day. With food and water. As long as he gets out and runs or walks most of the daylight hours. You did not say how old the lab is. If the lab is over ten years old then its a different story. Out of the apt. for a walk 3 hours a day. I hope your appt. has a patio with dirt and plants. Apt. setting is for a small dog. They even need to get out.

I think a lab needs more space and exercise than apartment life will provide. Go for a smaller pet that doesn't need as much activity. It is really a sad life for an active animal that is forced to live in close quarters.

No, not unless you are a regular marathon runner and are going to take Fido along on your daily jaunts for MILES...

This dog is very rambunctious. His tail alone will knock everything over.

He needs a yard. If you are dead set on owning this breed of dog. Wait until you can live in a house with a yard.

I dont recomend it, Labs can be hyper, and some get seperation anxiety, causing them to destroythe house. You can try sedatives. I recomend an Australian Sheppard. They Like to be indoors, And enjoy going to the park to chase the frisbe.

No dog should be pent up in an apartment. But, if you must have a dog, go for a little yappy dog.

not idealy, if you have a yard for it to run around in or you take it on frequent walks... than it will be ok. but labs are energetic dogs who need room to run and play.so i woulnt suggest it.
