How long does the nausea/sour stomach last with acid reflux?

The Dr told me I had heartburn with nausea. She prescribed me Zantac. It's been 4 days, my nausea is still present, though better. Should I be taking mylanta more often? Or between meals? How long does it take before I feel myself? At what point do I say this isn't working?

If it's been 4 days already, I would only wait another 1-2 days to see if the nausea subsides. It will last until the acid is under control for a few days and any damage that it has done the the stomach lining has healed (unless you have an ulcer, like me. In that case it can come and go until the ulcer has healed, which can take years to never!)

Have you tried taking a motion sickness tablet? If it doesn't put you to sleep, that is. That's what I take when I get nausea from my ulcer acting up. It works for me, but I only take it before I'm going to bed...it seems to help into the next day too.

the single most important thing is don't lay down until LONG after you've eaten.
i personally don't like zantac or those type meds. Tums is most effective. take two, and take one each hour or so afterwards as needed. do it all day if you need to.
once you have had a major reflux episode, you will be prone to continuation until you effectively end the cycle.
avoid overeating. avoid excessive meals or snacks. avoid greasy, spicy, or sugary foods and hard liquor.
eating toast or bread will also help absorb stomach acids to some extent.
