I have a new dog who needs walking and training, 3 cats whose litterboxes seem to need constant cleaning, classes all day Tuesday, work all day Wednesday and Thursday, lots of school work (I'm in grad school), and I have become primarily responsible for household stuff like running errands, cleaning, etc. Walking the dog isn't enough for me, I love to sweat and I like to do weights.

I'm a member of a gym, but it takes 15 minutes to get there and after work there's usually a wait for machines... so I like to go off hours if at all possible :)

Change the order.
Say to yourself, "I am exercising daily. Now I have to fit my hectic life into my exercise." Feed stuff back in until you have a schedule.

This is a very common situation but it shouldn't be. You just have to make decisions and take control over your life. What is more important than your health? (very little I hope)
The real question should be, how do you fit all the other stuff into your exercise routine. (ie - MAKE it part of your routine)
By the way, walking the dog counts as exercise, and if thats not enough, why not 'running the dog'. Personally, I ride a bike to work everyday and that doesn't 'cost' me any time as I can keep up with traffic and I have to go to work anyway.
I also stop on the way home and do push-ups and chin-ups and sit-ups at the local park (I've been going to gyms for more than 20 years and while its nice to have specialized equipment, if you know what you are doing you don't need it)
If you are in Grad school, every University has some kind of exercise facility and most have excellent ones. Take an hour out of your studying and do a workout - your studying will go better too. (more is not better when it comes to studying, breaking up your study periods with exercise will actually make your study time more efficient too)

My life is hectic too. The only thing I could figure out to do is to wake up a half hour early and work out first thing in the morning. I work out 5 times a week, but set my alarm and plan to work out 7 days a week. If I wake up one morning and feel especially tired, that's the morning I skip. But, I can only do that twice a week. So far it's working for me.

you could get rid of some cats. lol. When you go places and park, park farther out so you have to walk further. Go to the gym in morning or late at night,or you could always just manage your time a little better and try and make room for gym time.

Run home from work or school. Twice a week should be good. You would need to take the bus there or have some one take you. If you need to change don't forget your clothes, shoes and a small backpack for your normal clothes.

You just have to make it a priority. You either have to stay up late or get up early in order to fit it in.
Also, if possible, you might consider switching to a gym much closer to you. They say if your gym is 15 minutes away or more you're much less likely to go.

Do you watch T.V. at night after work and your house hold responsibilities? Well If/when you do you can exersise then. But come on....... do you really need to exersise when you in grad school? Even if you don't think so you are still growing and, by personal experiance, you don't need exersise. But you can if you want to. Up to you. Also if you think exersising is that important, you will find time! Good luck!
