We have already bought each other joint xmas and birthday presents, and we both have to work. I want to give him a few small surprises to make the day special.... any ideas?

A nice sexual delight would certainly make his day, be spontaneous, take control, have him in the kitchen, lounge, some place that you haven't done before. Or, Start by texting him at work to meet at a bar, then leave a message in an envelope with the barman, with a picture of him, telling him to go to certain places, keep doing this at least twice. Then after previously booking a Hotel room. Have him meet you at the Hotel room, then act like a paid prostitute with him. But also have something to eat and drink afterwards. Failing that, if you don't want to do anything sexual, try book a weekend go-karting for both of you. That's good fun.

Get a pole dance pole... the kind that extends and presses against the floor and and ceiling rafter... and a cheap disco light.
Remote control vibrator... he gets the radio control like a car keyfob, the little vibrate thing goes in your underwear and the guy gets to be a total brat.
Think more the bf being annoying say when you ordering a burger, sitting next to a nun, etc.
Get hold of a video camera, lights, costumes... leave the rest to your imagination.

Spend a few bucks. Buy some ribbons and sticky tape.

make a book of vouchers. for example "This voucher entitles the recipient a massage with essential oils" etc, make them all different and individual to him and what he likes. He can use them all year.
