What would you do if your boyfriend told you money was real tight, that he couldn't propose for another month or two until he gets back on his feet. I've already told him in the past that I don't want him to spend a lot on an engagement ring, that I'd rather have a very romantic proposal. Then 2 days later telling me money is so tight, he buys the Playstation3 which is about $700. I am not sure if he's trying to throw me off with saying money is so tight or if he's really just using money as an excuse to why we are not engaged yet. Please be honest.

maybe he is just nervous. or maybe he just wants it to be perfect for you. you dont want him to spend a lot on an engagement ring but it depends on what you consider alot. the cheapest engagement ring i have seen was about 250.00 and that was at kmart and dont know if it was real or not. so it may still end up costing him quite a bit to find just the right one for you. plus keep in mind that you want a very romantic proposal and granted this could be made without money but hes a guy and he probably wants it to be perfect. i think he probably was using that as an excuse to throw you off. because obviosly money is not tight if you can afford a 700.00 playstation.dont be pushy though. when he's ready itll happen. if you keep pushing the marriage subject you may actually push him away. what is the rush. i got married a year and a half a go and its great but but believe me tax season sucks!!! we got more back when we were single.anyway why would you try to make him feel like he has to propose or youll leave? that is supposed to be a surprise. something special. its supposed to be a mutual decision. one asks the other to marry him or her and the other either says yes or no. one doesnt force the other to marry them.

I'm not sure what message he's trying to give you. When the topic of marriage came up did you bring it up or did he? Perhaps he's seeing things in you that is giving him second thoughts. How do you know he paid for the PS3? Have you talk to him regarding the engagement ring, his money being tight and the PS3 purchase? How do you know he's not just trying to surprise you by telling you in a nice way that money is tight. What you need to do is stop worrying about getting a ring and be happy that you have someone in your life. You're going to feel real stupid when he surprises you with a ring and a romantic proposal.

If he bought a PS3, but couldn't pick you up a 100 dollar ring from Kay Jewelers, or even Wal-Mart (don't laugh!), then the tight money deal is a bunch of crap.

Honestly, hun, I'd say that he's putting you off for the engagement. You two need to have a talk, and let him know how you're feeling.

If he breaks your heart, break his PS3. :)

BUT!!!! Also, consider that maybe he has an engagement ring for you, and a plan. He wouldn't TELL you when he had the ring, or when he was going to propose. He just might want to really surprise you.

Do not push a guy into getting engaged. It sounds like you are the one pushing it by telling him the kind of proposal that you want. He apparently does not want to or he would have regardless of money or the ring. You should have mentioned how long you have known each other to get more definate answers if you have known each other less than a year, that really is not enough time for him to know if you really are the girl he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

My bf is going cheap on my ring too, but he's can't afford a nice one. But he also didn't go out and spend a lot on a PlayStation. I don't think he's ready to get married. Or maybe he has the ring he's just waiting for the right time. He just wants to catch you off guard since you already know your getting engaged.

Good Luck!

Well that's pretty dirty that he tells you money is tight to get you an engagement ring yet he goes and gets himself a playstation..like that's more important. But I guess that in itself gives you your answer...he is putting himself before ANYTHING and my question to you is...Is that someone you want to be with? Your heart knows the right thing to do .... go with that. Good luck.

Don't leave but give him a fair amount of $hit for it. Sounds to me like he doesn't want to get engaged yet. Talk to him, calmly and logically, about it and let him know where you're coming from and how it makes you feel. Don't get upset, just tell him. If he keeps not making an effort, and you feel the need to get married , leave.

ok, so let's say that you believe what he's saying, but what if you finally get married and then he will do the same with you? "oh, honey, i don't have any money, we'll have to pay the bills only in a couple of months", and after a few days you see that he bought a home cinema console... would you really want that? i guess he's eighter selfish or a cheapskate... i don't think you deserve this... and maybe he'll do the same when you'll want a baby... so... it isn't worth it... leave him... even though you love him, i don't think it's worth destroying your life when it's not too late to stop...

If he really wants to marry you, he will not be buying PS3, he will be saving money for your ring or wedding.
If you are not so crazy about him now that you see the above, do leave him. It's really a waste of time if you can see he's not trying his best. You deserve the best.

He's not ready to get engaged. If you really love him you can wait for him to grow up and stop pressuring him about it. Let engagement come naturally.
