I'd talk to your vet about that. Excessive thirst in animals and humans can be a sign of diabetes. Make sure your pooch is OK!

I would seek advice from your vet as excessive drinking could be a sign of an underlying health problem. Also is he peeing alot. What has he been eating. Too much salt will make him thirsty. I am sure the vet will be happy to advise and put your mind at rest

You should get a full blood panel done to check for underlying problems. But, if you've already gone that route, ration his water.
My cousin's dog has no health problems, but like yours, is a glutton for water. Her vet said that some dogs drink and drink just for the taste of it. If you give him a full bowl of water at mealtimes and one right before bedtime, your pup will be fine!
Make sure to remove all salty treats and do not feed human food.
Also, have your vet make sure that he is not suffering from the early stages of diabetes or organ failure before you try to treat him at home!

From your description of the problem, it's possible that he can have Diabetes, which causes excessive thirst. Don't take away his water, because he can get dehydrated, very easily. He's such a young little guy, and puppies at this age can develop alot of problems. He needs to be seen and treated by the vet, as soon as possible. Don't wait to take him in, because if it is diabetes, it can't wait, and needs to be diagnosed and treated right away. Good Luck! Hope this helps, and I hope your little guy is back normal soon.

Dogs do drink a surprising amount of water - especially if they have salty raw hide snacks and chews. He should have constant access during the day but take it away after 8pm or he'll struggle to make it through the night without going for a wee.
If you have concerns about his health you should take him to the vet to be sure. Better safe than sorry!

It is worth going to the vet because of diabetes, but at 17 weeks old, that would be pretty uncommon.
You can overfeed a dog, but you can't give them too much water.

Excessive thirst is often an early symptom of diabetes. Get your dog to a vet and have him checked out ASAP.

Canine diabetes comes to mind in what you describe. It needs veterinarian intervention to ensure that the pancreas is functioning , which is doubtful. The cost of maintaining a diabetic dog is horrendous and it may be kinder and cheaper to have it put to sleep.

He needs a vet check could be his kidneys.
If he has all dried food can cause excessive drinking but I would consult a vet.

If he seeks out alternative sources of water, then he's obviously thirsty. If your vet hasn't told you that is thirst is problematic, then keep giving him water. Stomachs bloat when they're full of food and water, that's normal. Now if the bloating is causing problems, like he's wimpering in pain or something, then that's not normal. But just looking full is normal.
