My first advice to you is not to ask doubts on the part of your religion in yahoo answers, as its full of religion haters& fanatics. The example is there already, if you see half of the answers are from infidels spewing venom. Next time go to any Islamic website rather. Best of luck.

Changing the color of grey hair by using henna, red dye, yellow dye, and so on
Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet, upon whom be peace, said, "The Jews and Christians do not dye, so differ from them." (Related by "the group.") Abu Dharr reported that the Messenger of Allah said, "The best thing that one can use to change the color of grey hairs is henna and katm (a reddish dye)." (Related by "the five.")
There are some narrations that state that dying is disliked, but it is obvious that these narrations conflict with the sunnah and custom. It is related from some of the companions that it is better not to dye, while others say it is better to do it. Some used a yellow dye, while others used henna or katm. Others used saffron, and a group of them used a black dye. Ibn Hajr mentioned in Fath al-Bari that az-Zuhri said, "We used black dye if our face was youthful, but if wrinkles were present and the teeth were gone we would not use it." Said Jabir, "Abu Quhafah (Abu Bakr's father) was brought to the Prophet during the conquest of Makkah while his head was "white." The Prophet, upon whom be peace, said, "Take him to one of his wives and let her change the color of his hair with something, but she should avoid (making his hair) black." (Related by "the group," except for al-Bukhari and at-Tirmidhi). This dealt with a certain incident, and cannot be generalized. Furthermore, black would not be proper for someone as old as Abu Quhafah.

I have heard that it is haram to dye your hair black, but I never heard any proof of it. I didn't really care because I don't want to dye my hair black. I think the main reason is to not use an unnatural color on your hair. *black* black is not natural, though you can get many natural shades of black. If your hair is naturally black, I don't see why you can't dye it back to your natural shade. Otherwise just go with a dark brown.

Dyeing white hair with a completely black dye is haram, i.e. forbidden in Islam but dyeing one's hair with the mixture of black and brown for instance is permissible.

Mulla Ali Qari says that it has been forbidden in the hadith to use a totally black dye.

God knows best.

Peace and Love.

A lot of women, regardless of race, alter their hair. Some change the color or texture. It's a matter of personal preference and I don't think they're trying to conform to anyone's standard of beauty but their own. I don't think anyone should make a big deal out of nothing. It's hairstyles. I don't dye or perm my hair. I do, however, use a flat-iron to straighten it. I was born a blond but now I'm a medium brown. But when my hair starts to turn gray, I will start to color it, because I choose to. I will probably dye it my natural color maybe with a few blond highlights. But that's because it's my choice. Again, personal preference. 2D

If you think logically, why would it be haram? Are you hurting someone or yourself? If no, it is not a bad thing to dye it.
